Just a side note, people were testing the ice at the 66 ramp with the large rip-rap rocks. When the thaw happens, some will be on the ramp, or road bed. You have been warned! wife

They weren't doing it when I was there, but some have walked/skied as far as the No Wake Buoy.

If someone fell through the ice walking or skiing out to a bouy that lifetime might not last very long.

I didnt have a drill, but I'm pretty sure it was safe that far out. The ice extended well past the point.

I walked out there. Safe ice is considered 4” and that ice was 5”-6”. I’ve been called many names for going out there but mostly just from ignorant people that don’t know better. People in other states fish 4” ice and less on a daily basis and it’s considered normal. I guess Texas ice is genetically altered or something and it’s not considered safe to do it. LOL. There were people driving ATV’s on that exact same patch of ice. [Linked Image]

That was yesterday morning. With the thawing that happened yesterday afternoon I’m sure the ice is compromised to the point it’s not safe now.

4" of ice is safe. People up north will go on 3" to ice fish around the shorelines as they melt first, when you punch hole the ice is for sure compromised like all the holes near that dock, they use plywood to stand on to spread their weight out...don't try that at home

There were no holes around that dock. The lack of snow in some spots just gives that appearance.

A good portion of it was not as dense because of the snow that fell first, we had a kid that fell though a pond here that's lucky to be alive, yes its 4 inches thick but the top half is soft,
