Have a new generator coming in and need advise on the plugs . the ones that do not look like a regular 120 v on the far right { RV } and in the middle . All I need is to hook up fridge . freezer , tv central heat that is a gas unit so it will run only a few watts . It says the one in the middle is for 120 v 30 amp . and the one on the far right is a RV for 120 volts and 30 amp . What can I use them far ? And can I get a adapter to use them for a regular wall plug type ? Sorry I know nothing about electricity . [Linked Image]

Yeah, you should make up special cords to split that 110v/30a. Cord into two 110/15a plugs for lighting circuits, and build a second cord to convert the 110v/30a outlet to the appropriate outlet for the fridge, freezer, or other load you want to power.

The RV power plug may be different, so read the instructions.

Easy solution (for 110 low power demand household items)12 gauge heavy duty outdoor extension cords. WEN make some marketed specifically for generators.

Best solution: Hire a certified electrician to hardwire it into your home with a transfer switch.

Easy solution in more detail

I haven’t read the instruction manual for that generator.
My guess is that those 110 three prong outlets from the generator each have a 15amp fuse.
Thus, I would only use the simple solution to run low power demand items (anything with start and peak wattage demand under 3000 watts). The simple solution would max out with portable electric space heaters.

Start with low power items that don’t have complicated electronics; like a simple coffeemaker
Then work up to moderate power items like an electric fan. Then a portable heater. Do not overload the extension cord or the fuse on the generator outlet. If you feel warmth on the extension cord, turn the powered item off and then unplug it and don’t put that item on the extension cord again.

I defer to Cast as I believe he is a certified electrician.

It's likely that the standard wall outlet plugs are 15A and the two far right plugs are 30A each. Of course you can't run 15 amps on each wall plug and 30 amps on each of the far right plugs at the same time. That's just the rating for the connection. Your generator will probably supply around 35 amps of total power if my math is right.

I have a transfer switch that's rated for 7500 watts that works well. I think the problem you'll have using this generator to power the central heat/air is that most of them are 240V. So even though you can supply the amperage to power the gas heat portion (mainly just running the blower and electronics), the standard connection for those units is 240V and I doubt you'll be able to make it run with a generator that doesnt' have a 240V output. If it did have a 240V output, you could use a transfer switch or interlock kit to power everything you wanted.

I'll personally never buy a home generator that doesn't have 240V output - too many limitations. Right now I'm using my predator 3500 inverter mainly for camping and for home emergencies when needed, and it's been fine. But for pure emergency use, you're much better off with something that has 240V output, or just know that you'll be relegated to running 120V plugs (TV, fridge, etc.) and using space heaters for warmth.

Furnace should be 110, it is only 240 to the condenser (outside unit).

That gen will run your heat but not your ac in the summer.

Searched for portable units w 220-240 if your wanting to run ac in the summer etc Id get one of these.

His rv plug on the far right should be 220. (240) 30amp probably isnt enough to run the condenser, say in the summer for ac. I looked in my basement at my breakers and my ac condenser has two 30a going to it.

In my rv 30amp will only run one of my ac units. 50amp will run both ac.

the one he posted is an rv type, no 220.

specs,
4,750-Watt Generator includes two 120-Volt receptacles (standard household 5-20R), a 30 Amp 3-prong receptacle (L5-30), and a 120-Volt RV receptacle (TT-30R).

Hop is right about the plugs/receptacles on the generator, there is not 220-240 volt outlet. The output amperage available is 31 amps. My suggestion would be to get a 30 amp rated cord (#10 Romex will work if not over 75’ in length) put an L5-30R male attachment cap on one end and a quad box (2) duplex 120-volt outlets on the other. Then you can run individual extension cords to selected loads. Make sure to ground the generator for safety

guys, enough on the suicide cords, here is your simple and inexpensive answer. wire this to a wall mounted 4 way for extension cords or have an electrician wire it to an interlock panel to your breaker box. less than 100 smackers to install and wire to a wall 4 way yourself, use some 10 ga. from plug to 4 way.
