I would tell them that normally this time off would be unpaid, but being it would be a burden for some to not get anything, the company is going to pay them for 1/2 of the time off.
Company shows their concern for their well being but isnt out for the whole expense of it

Very reasonable.

Pay them under a "disaster" pay code. Look into insurance coverage picking up the tab. Use the kind deed as a recruiting and advertising point of conversation.

If paying your employees a week a pay is going to cause financial issues, then you have deeper issues you need to be concerned about. You can also use it as a tool when a good employee wants to quit or when recruiting new employees. Remind them of Covid and these inclement weather days.

We are paying regular pay through this. We were able to do some remote work but most of our customers were shut down anyway.

We got the notice today, a anyone who didn't login and do training on Mon through today are using PTO. No electricity, no pay. Our Branch was closed, but office people did not have training to do.
I will have my resume updated tomorrow

My wife’s company gave them manager-approved 25 hours of PTO for this week, which means it doesn’t count towards their actual PTO, but not everyone could work from home this week, and also one of their offices had water damage that took out a server, which meant even people who worked from home couldn’t work. So they are doing this to try to cover both sides. And it has to be approved by your manager, it’s not just blanket 25 hours off.

Not ideal but better than just not paying people, especially if they lost power, heat and water through no fault of their own.

That sucks. Sorry, man.

The company has been showing their true colors since covid. I will probably just go to a customer. I get job offers often, I will do fine.

Are they hourly or salary? Hourly should not get paid. Salary should. We are salaried employees who get paid on an hourly basis. So we will be paid for it, although we were expected to use PTO for the time we couldn't work because their network was down. So, I'll be charging more PTO than I have at the end of the year, because it's not a "vacation" if I'm trying to work and scheduled to work and the company's infrastructure can't support it. But if I was pure hourly, I think I'd have no argument to support being paid.

I think this is what I'd do if I was in their shoes. Shared success, shared sacrifice.
