Does viewing a frozen pond tell you anything useful about it?

My favorite pond is frozen and I took a look at it just to see it and noticed that different areas the ice looked thicker. I took a few pictures and I was wondering if that has to do with the water depth. I reminded me of a topo map.

Fish hold in deeper water when the top freezes. Should have gone ice fishing.

Shallow end warms up faster. Come spawn time I know where I’ll be fishing!
