As a Bears fan I am delighted that they "lost" this competition to the Colts. A Chicago sportswriter described Wentz as Trubisky without the leadership book library; an unholy blending of Jay Cutler attitude with Trubisky decision-making.

That should make my sister and nephew happy. They're Colts fans.

He may do well. He showed a lot of potential for a couple of years. His problem may be between his ears and with the chemistry he failed to develop and deteriorated with the team. Hope he does well. Reich is a good coach and the reason Wince looked so good early on. And a large reason the Iggles won the SB. He definitely has done well with Indy.

Well, there were a lot of footsteps. He was sacked fifty times in 12 games this year.

It already does look stupid no matter what happens (whether he wins 8 MVPs and five Super Bowls in Indy or never plays another down).

- signed him to a monster deal with major cap implications.
- few months later, draft a QB in the 2nd round instead of upgrading at OL and WR; GM defends Hurts pick by saying Philadelphia is going to be a “QB factory,” whatever the hell that means (this isn’t college).
- coach is fired, apparently because he believed in Wentz.
- team publicly says Wentz is the guy, hire a new coach from the coaching tree of Reich, who everyone attributes Wentz’ success with. New coach is risky because he has no HC experience but at least the thought is they’re going to try to “fix” Wentz.
- inexplicably start shopping Wentz (I’m sure it will come out that he demanded a trade, which is chicken S on his part, but frankly I’d want to get out too) after the Stafford deal when Wentz’ stock couldn’t be any lower after last year (he had a terrible year, but it wasn’t all him by any means).
- get fleeced by the Colts for a third round pick and a conditional second round pick and take a massive cap hit after you signed him to a franchise QB contract.

Completely inept management when you look at the total history. If they were down on him, why sign him to a deal like that? Why draft a QB in the second round (when you probably could’ve drafted him in the third or fourth) instead of OL or WR? Their receivers have been atrocious and the GM routinely misses on drafting WR. Why fire the coach, then hire a guy with no experience to fix Wentz, then trade him for nothing at his lowest point and destroy your salary cap? Philly fans have been saying it for years - Howie Roseman was always the problem.

Hope Wentz does well, because I think he is a very good QB with the right parts around him like he had in 2017.

Edited to add: the other thing that is dumb is, the GM has been terrible at acquiring talent through the draft. Now, with cap issues, it’s even more important. Getting a third round pick and a conditional second round pick was bad enough, but there should be zero confidence in his ability to properly use those picks to salvage anything from this entire saga.

There has to be a reason that he went so cheap after initially being such a promising QB.
