Good information. Some good inside the industry details too. Lots of finger pointing on the whole ERCOT issue. Probably somewhat complex/political but either way they are getting an earful now. One source at U of Houston said it was only a matter of time for ERCOT to fail like this. Not sure who to trust..........sounds like a familar saying these days. Oh well, on to more positive matters like fishing.

and coal fired plants you just throw some more coal in to light those burners up. You never have to worry about ice shutting you down from pipe lines or anything else because they would have mountains of coal just waiting. Unless something has changed over the years, they start up on NG Igniters and then induce the coal dust. At least that is the way ours started up. We also had problems with wet coal creating a frozen plug coming out of the hoppers. One time they bought some "cheap" lignite to burn, it had so much dirt in it that it froze into a huge chunk. We spent hours around the clock hammering on the side of the hoppers above the pulverizers to empty them out. Dang, I don't miss those cold nights up in the air. I remember wet lignite Oldrabbit. Just getting wet lignite up into the silos was a nightmare, the entire fuel handling system would plug up That stuff was like running brownie batter when it got wet. Then we got a quicklime system to inject granulated lime into the lignite, lime & moisture create heat thus drying out the coal prior to the crusher house. Anthracite & Bituminous coal are not so bad to run when wet.
Reality. What a concept!

I mean having a reliable base load in the winter would be neat and all, but how great would it be to have all these hot water lakes back and fishing good in the winter?

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach
