So I got an email today from my electric company (Eligo), stating they are not a POLR. They are offering $200 if I go to the designated POLR, in this case ONCOR and their POLR = TXU if I make a switch today. I looked it up and it sounds like they may not be able to continue providing service. Using a POLR is temporary, so I understand. The going rate at TXU is 15.3c per kWh. I don't mind switching to ensure we keep the lights on with a modest increase in rate for a short time. Has anyone dealt with this, got more specific info?? POLR info: https://www.puc.texas.gov/consumer/electricity/polr.aspx
Some folks mouths, flat out runs their minds.

Make sure any rate change is locked in. A flex rate right now could be a 1000 dollar bill

My step daughter signed up on Griddy.com a few months ago cause it was cheap. Now she is pay 9.02 per kwh. She called several other providers and was told by all that they are not accepting new customers at this time. Finally she found one that will take her, but won't do the switch until Saturday.

I got the same email from them yesterday. I didn't see anything in the email about stopping service.
Sounds like they're losing their arse and they're trying to cut their losses.
You are not a good or nice person.

Sounds like they're losing their arse and they're trying to cut their losses. I think you are right. After a hold of about 20 minutes, magically a live rep came online. I asked specifically if their energy supply was about to run out and my service be shut off. His answer was No no, we are just offering $200 to all of our customers to have the option to switch and receive $200. My fixed rate contract runs through July and I've decided to let it run it's course. I do use Energy Ogre and have confidence they will find me a new provider when the time comes as in the past.

I don't think who you purchase your power from or the price you pay will have any bearing on whether your power is curtailed during a rolling blackout. Curtailments are made in bulk by the actual transporter/distributor of the electricity to your location (such as ONCOR in N TX) without regard to price. In ERCOT electricity sellers purchase the power from the actual power generation plant owners. What's happening in your case and many others is that your electricity marketer is paying more per killowatt hour for their supply than the price you currently have under contract. In other words they are loosing $ on every kwh you use until spot prices come down. As mentioned by someone above they are trying to cut their losses ASAP.

I agree with Mark C and this. I’m with the same company and I also use Energy Ogre. I got the same email you did. I don’t think they’re going to cut off service if we don’t switch. I’m holding tight with fingers crossed we make it to Friday.

This switching suppliers is odd to me. Who owns the lines? We are stuck with who we have, its their line, not complaining cause we have cheap power here.

Need to think of this as 1) the electrical energy itself and 2) the delivery party getting the energy to your house.
Generally, if you are in an area that allows you to choose your energy vendor the company that actually delivers power to your location is the distributor/delivery mechanism and owns the powerlines. They usually are not the seller of the power to you. The seller or marketer of the actual energy to the retail customer pays the distributor to bring it to your house. Think of it as you ordered something from Bass Pro and FedX delivers it to your location. The power line owner (in this example FedX) did not sell you the new reel you just received.
If you are in a "co-op" and do not have the option to choose your energy supplier, you will buy both the energy itself and delivery service from the co-op as one bundled service.

Make sure any rate change is locked in. A flex rate right now could be a 1000 dollar bill And make sure if you switch you like the longer term pricing another provide may offer. I would recommend staying with your current provider but if you're tempted to change make them a counter-offer. Their exposure is multiple times what they are offering.

Thanks. Yes in a co-op here, most rural homes are. Oklahoma has PSO and OG&E in metro areas and they own the lines as well so you get who you get depending on your location.
