Just came back at 3:16 here in Rowlett, Rockwall county. Dang. The gas fireplace kept the living room at 54. Gas stove as well was a help. Man, 13 hours without power on one of the coldest days. Praying that it stays on. Bless those folks that work for the power companies.

3:16 - consider yourself blessed.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

They ought to give it away so we could use it as fuel. It burns right?

You may want to warm up some food and keep it simmering on the stove. I made a big pot of chicken stew yesterday and once the power was on, it went back on the stove and is simmering in case we lose power again.

I found out another emergency situation I need to work on. I had that tall cedar fence put in and we have a huge heavy 3" tube steel gate that is electrically powered and has wheels that ride on a metal rail track. I figured I could manually move it to get a vehicle out in case we had to go to a hotel or something. I could not push this thing, so I used a come a long and got it open about 4 feet. Then because I forgot to check for ice on the track, one of the wheels rode off the track. Dang. Had to come up with a series of two by fours and bricks to leverage it up and back on the track. Had to pull tension on it with ratchet straps tied around the oak tree. I broke a sweat and it is 11° out there. Finally got it back on the track and ratcheted it back closed. Then when power came back on I had to get the torch to the rails to melt the ice. Then used the regualar electric motor to open it and get a vehicle out to the street in front. Man, I need to get some kind of manual winch system for it for emergencies. Maybe a 12V powered winch. I have several batteries in my boat in the garage.

Ours have been out for 10 hours. Lucky to get a hotel room close by. Hope like hell the water keeps running and does not freeze up.

Sorry to hear that Bob. So much for rolling outages 15-30 minutes at a time.

Our neighborhood alerts have been blowing up about people without power since middle of last night, pools damaged, pipes frozen but so far we have escaped any of that. I’ll count us as lucky so far.

It’s been just 3 hours here on the first blackout.

Pizzes me off though when our damn local pilashitions signed a contract a few years ago with for some renewable BS company. It made the national news and I think has been a failure or at least hasn’t delivered as promised.

How’s that green [censored] working now you environMENTAL wackos?

No real good sun in the winter for solar. Wind turbines that freeze. bang
