Going to be interesting to see how this dip impacts them. Don't they die off around 40 degree water temperature?

Many will die off, but there’s plenty in the lakes.

threadfin are good to about 42 F. I think there will be some die off in most North Texas lakes. But, not sure if it will be a signifcant difference or a mild.

Top water action should be off the charts this year in all lakes, there will be a pretty big die off and only the strong will survive.

Over abundance of Shad in the lake. Will make fishing better for the angler without hurting growth of the fish

^^^ this 100%

next years fishing always declines without a winter freeze. just like mosquitos. nows a good time for a jigging spoon.

Can y’all clarify? Shad dying off will make for better fishing?

Less shad = more competition for food = better odds that the fish will bite your lure. Not seeing how less shad would help the lake or the bass, just the bass fishermen.

I've seen shad migrations so thick being busted by bass where you cannot get bit. Hard to compete against the real thing. Over abundance of many things in nature is not good. Mother nature's way of balancing an environment

My thoughts are a big shad kill is not good for the bass. I want those big bellied ones, not those 23 inch 5 lbers. Less forage means more competition with equals smaller growth rate.

Over feeding bass causes more problems than you know. A balanced diet is key to big bass or every pond owner would have teen size bass

Texoma got down to high 30’s in the mid 1970’s. That spring TPWD couldn’t find any Threadfin in the lake. At the time there was a small power plant with lake at Savoy. TPWDtook tanker trucks and got shad there to Kick Texoma up again.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

Any body of water needs plenty of forage. How many ponds have you guys fished with stunted bass? This holds true in lakes also. You have bass, catfish, crappie and so many other species fighting for those baitfish.

The baitfish die and the growth rate goes lower. Pretty simple.

I would love to talk to Salex about this.
