Hey guys,

I've been seeing some reports of creeks and whatnot being on fire with white bass and crappie recently. Looks like a lot of fun on a lighter set up! If this isn't the right time of year lemme know when I should be trying again!

Could anyone direct me to a body of water I could bank fish from? Like even a marina or something, it doesn't have to be a special creek or anything it could be a very well known spot, I've just never caught a whitebass or crappie before and am looking to hook into my first one!

I've got no special lures or experience clearly, but I'd probably get out there and toss an inline spinner in hopes of enticing a scaly friend.

Oh, would lake conroe have those species? I might be more inclined to try out that body of water since it's the closest lake I've got.

I live near Conroe and have asked this same question, I've been told stubble field is a good location to bank fish and launch a kayak from, at least that's what i have been told idk we will see in a couple weeks i plan on taking the yak out and fishing the san jac river so ill keep you updated.

I fished in winter in Texas for four year while stationed there and was always able to catch some in small waters - even at the edge of ice packs. As always you gotta be where the fish are and in colder water downsize lures moving them slow either mid depth or on bottom. I didn't know much about light jigs and soft plastics back then (70's) but do now and I've found them to be tops when it comes to fishing through holes in the ice.

Fish are cold blooded and must eat regardless the water temperature. The less they eat on a daily basis, the more apt they are to attack a slow moving lure especially one they don't have to chase far. Soft plastic designs that catch fish all year round are unlimited in number and well worth casting - the beauty being the area covered while searching for fish. Slow & unsteady retrieves are key in colder water with pauses vs steady/ medium-fast retrieves.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Bassman and that's a very cool tip SenkoSam! Makes intuitive sense and is definitely something I'm gonna try out when I go fish in colder weather.
