A few people will catch fish. Almost everyone else will zero while freezing their basses off.

Real question is how many trucks will end up in lake from frozen boat ramps since it won’t get above freezing 🥶

Forecast in south central Texas is saying FREEZING temperatures for seven days in a row. The lowest is forecasted to be 13 degrees. Looks like the next 7 to 9 days are going to be tough. Stay safe out there.

One of my phone forecast apps says 8 degrees for the low one day and 10 the next. I sure do hope that one is wrong! Cold is not my friend.

Most E Tx lakes are currently running mid to low 50's right now. I am thinking by next Tues-Wed, those temps are at least gonna be in the mid to low 40's (42-44 range). I am not sure there is a bass swimming in E Texas that has experienced water temps in the low 40's in their lifetimes? I know I saw some high 40 temps on Conroe a few years back (47-48) and it definitely had a negative impact on fishing. I would think that it's one thing for a fish to experience 40 degree water temps once or twice a year during their life spans, but to have never experienced it, in my opinion, could really be interesting to see.

Fished a tournament at Palestine years ago water temp was 41. Caught a few in 7ft of water.
I bet it will get that low easy.

I ain't joshing here. I seen 3 fish that was 5lbs+ and prolly 6 or 7 males, no giants. Only a few signs beds were starting to be made but they defn'ly were cruising around. They will spot you as easily as you spot them and then they swim down the creek. Deepest spot is at the sharp bend, 6-7feet, and most of it averages prolly 2ft deep. Park at the side of the road on the street that is 100 yards east of the bridge and walk to bridge. You will see a few trails through the woods that is along the east bank. I would get up on the higher spots and ease my head over the sides and watch them. It's clear in there, like always. Just wear your polarized glasses. Also, you will pick off cockaburras once you come outta there. When I come back from AR next week, I'm taking my fishing pole with me and I'm gonna catch one of those heads.

Here is the forecast for the Ray Hubbard area. I could easily see water surface temps dip into the high 30's by Tuesday morning but it should be short lived. Weather will be back in the 70's by next Friday.

December 1989 was the coldest I ever seen here in north Texas {-7 } 1 night the day after Christmas I caught what at that time was my personal best in 6ft of water on a spinner bait 11.44 water temp was 41degrees.froze my rear off ,LOL

I've fished 39 degree water twice on Palestine, both times in February. We fished two January team tournaments in January there with water temps 40-41 degrees. We weighed one fish each time. It was brutal so we quit doing it.

In the early 80’s N. TX had the coldest winter in decades. I think it was ‘83. Was already cold and there was a week like we’re forecasting to have in the coming days. There was areas of Ray Hubbard that had ice extending out pretty far from shore especially by rip rap. I don’t know what surface temps were but would have to think high 30’s are possible as some have said they have seen 1st hand.

Zona talks about how the fishing turns on after “ice out” so things should be good the following week.

It was Dec 1983 and it didn't rise above freezing for 2 solid weeks. It was the first time I have ever seen Ray Hubbard frozen north of Hwy 66.

Behind the RR bridge on Monticello halfway back into Blundell was frozen over too!!

I remember this very well even though I was only 5-6 years old at the time. I remember Dad taking me, my brother, and some of our friends to the Chaha boat ramp and it was frozen as far as the eye could see from there which would be between I-30 and what is now 190. The ice was so thick we couldnt break through it even with some of the big rocks there by the ramp at the time. At the time they had a pretty long wood pier that went out there and even at the very end of that pier the ice was so thick we couldnt break it.

I have seen ice several times north of Rowlett Road and the short 66 bridge since then, but never in the 190 area since 1983.

This time I expect to see ice north of Rowlett Rd, Miller Rd, and north of the short 66 bridge. I dont expect a repeat of '83 though.

I was a kid just out of high school in ‘83 working framing houses. Had to have a fire next to our air compressor to run our nail guns all day long or the compressor would freeze up. Is was not simply below freezing for over two weeks. While I don’t remember the exact temps they did get into single digits highs for a big portion of that two week period. Every pond, creek and many of the lakes froze over. It reached way down south too. Ice on ponds in Houston. That was the year that we lost the majority of the redfish in the bays and the state started all the strict limits and began a massive restocking program to replenish the redfish.
