What trailer do y'all recommend for transporting these Pelican/Bass Hunter plastic boats? I would like to travel with it at highway speeds and take the boat to various places around the Metroplex and to the in-laws about 3.5 hours away.

Would a utility trailer or jet ski trailer be better? I don't have a boat yet, but would likely have a TM up front and small outboard on the back, if that makes a difference.

I have the 10' Pelican. It fits snuggly in the back of a Ford Ranger with one strap holding it down. I'm 54 years old and don't have any problems loading once you figure out the easiest way. You don't have to worry about trailer tires, tags, etc. All my accessories fit inside the boat and I can run on the highway 80 mph. Others have used jet ski trailers and the Harbor Frieght trailer is an inexpensive option that many use, although I'm not sure how it handles at highway speeds.

If your not launching with it a utility trailer would work. If you plan on launching, you probably need to pick up a cheap PWC trailer and do some work to it to fit your boat.

These boats are popular because most people throw them in the bed of pickup and don't mess with trailer maintenance or registration.
The Harbor Freight utility trailer is the cheapest trailer route. Sign up on their website to receive e-mails and they will put their small trailers on sale frequently. Just don't submerge the lights or wheel bearings. Most people pull up to the edge of the water and push the boat off from there.
The sturdiest solution is a jet ski trailer modified with a sheet of plywood attached to it. Just make sure you measure the distance between the fenders to make sure the boat will fit.
With either option, make sure your trailer tires are inflated to spec since they will be rotating 2 to 3 times faster than your car tires. Also tie down the boat and seats.

I have a Pelican Predator and I pull it with a old jet ski trailer. I use to carry it in the back of my pickup but it is a bit much to handle by yourself. Two people can handle it with no problem. My boat weighs 156lbs. I have a trolling motor on the front and a 6hp Mercury on the back.

I don't have a truck and would be towing the boat with a SUV with a tow rating for 3500lb.

The Harbor Freight trailers concern me as I don't think they are rated for higher speeds.

Do you keep the TM and outboard on the boat while traveling? Or do you put them on the boat once you arrive?

I put the trolling motor and outboard on the boat when towing. Never had any issues.

I bought a John boat Jon Boat trailer from Academy and just added bolt on guides with eye bolts for a strap.

I would strap that boat down to the trailer frame instead of across the back to the vertical guide posts.
I would run the strap through the side boat handles if possible. You want the boat and trailer to act as one unit. With the straps across the back, the boat could pop loose if you hit something and the trailer becomes airborne. It sounds silly but it happens with light weight trailers.
You also want to see how the seat is secured. I had the Pelican version and ran rope over the top of the seats so they would not blow out at highway speed.

I had another question regarding the trailer...and it concerns the titling of a trailer.

I saw a utility trailer (5x8) that could potentially work and message the fella about it and asked about the trailer title.

He replied, "Texas does not issue titles on trailers less than 4000 lbs but it is registered in his name." I found similar information that supports his claim on the dmv page, but I wanted to run it by you guys to make sure I am not missing something else.

Used trailers less than or equal to 4,000 lbs. gross weight need a Bill of Sale + Registration Receipt from the current owner. Take those to your county tax office to get it registered in your name and get new tags. As always when dealing with the government it would be best to call them before you buy the trailer to have the county tell you what they want from you.

I'm using the Tractor Supply lawnmower trailer. Works great.
