I use a braid to fluoro leader for my finesse fishing and when I set the hook or snag a rock I notice the braid digs in towards the spool. So when I go to make the next cast the braid doesn't want to come off the spool. I'm using SiderWire 10lb braid...any tips to help prevent this?

Make a max distance cast, put electrical tape around the spool, reel it in.

I assume you are using a spinning rod? Either way that typical of braid. 10# braid is very small diameter. It's about the equivalent of 2# mono. You might consider upping your braid size. 30# is about the same size as 8# mono. That may help some with the issue.

+1 even on spinning gear 10lb braid is very light. It's going to be tough to avoid this problem.

10lb braid is fine if you tape the spool the line diameter is so small you wont have many layers of braid so it wont have anything to cut into....

I was using 30 on my spinning religiously but now have 15 and 10 working well also.

I agree. I now use at least 20 on to avoid this issue but still tape it down to the spool with a painters tape strip. Works great.

I don’t set the hook...so I’ve never had braid dig in.

Just messin.

Jeff has a good solution. It works ok, till ya have to retie a few times. Then, when you remove the tape to reset the spool depth, the line has sticky goo all over it.

Best bet is to reel it on a tight as you can, use 20 or 30 lb braid, and just deal with it on the occasion that you get snagged or set the hook. Btw, setting the hook is a good thing and the cast to free the line from the “dig” should be done in a celebratory fashion.

There is no sticky goo if you use good quality electrical tape scotch brand, 8-9$ a roll not the 1.oo rolls.

or painters tape, painters tape takes two complete wraps min, or it will tear if you cast to it. And since it doesnt stick to the line at all its a bit trickier to apply .

But I dont lose but a few inches when I retie my LEADER on spinning rods, which is the discussion here!! ......

Put a small amount of Mono backing on the reel. Then attach the Braid.

Temflex, Scotch 3M 33, it doesn’t matter in Texas. In a boat rod box or on the deck in summer heat, it’s gonna turn to goo. lol

Maybe in a northern/moderate climate. But here, everything melts.

That will keep it from slipping, but the dig is still gonna happen.

Im just posting trying to help people out, with my first hand experiences. It works great for me and has worked great for lots of people on here who have tried it after Ive shared it in the past.

I already posted a solution if ELECTRICAL tape wont work for them. Use painter tape then, problem solved, it has no stick it barely sticks to itself. That makes it a little harder to use plus you have to use scissors and trim it to width each time.....

Its over a 100 up here in Iowa and humid, and unlike most of you Texans I still fish in that temp regularly as its always windy after about 8 am.
