I am looking for a Ford Explorer to pull my my Ranger 519VX. Most 2020โ€™s have a 2.4L Turbo charged engine that puts out 300 HP. Does anyone out there pull their boat with an Explorer with an engine like that or the available 3.0L engine? I would like to know before I go out and buy one.

I pull an FX20 with a 2020 400hp Twin turbo Explorer and itโ€™s like it isnโ€™t even back there. This has 415 Ft/Lbs of torque in the ST model. Not for sure if the smaller engine would do you good on long trips. It may.

I have always thought that it was torque not horsepower that was more important for towing?

It will pull fine...the braking is where I would be concerned. The one benefit, the trailer has brakes which will help as well.

That engine has over 300 ft/lbs of torque. It is a good motor just warm it up good before loading it. My wife has one, our family friend is a technician for Ford. He said to make an ecoboost last let the oil warm up good before pushing boost and do not lug the engine. (Do not mistake engine coolant temp for oil temp as the coolant warms up much faster than the oil. Honestly I cannot remember if hers has an oils temp gauge on it as I drive my truck or my car mostly)

Look at the vehicle tow rating and total GVWR. That will let you know how much you can tow and carry.

^^^this for sure! The load rating has much more to do with being able to stop the load than it does with being able to make the load go!
