Few weeks ago I was bank fishing, doing my Carp and Buff thing at Lake Grapevine. I am near a small private launch ramp. Two bruhs show up with a fancy new bass boat. I recall the brand and color of the boat and the truck and even what the dudes looked like but as to not shame them... I will leave out those deets. It was a very unique truck and a brand new boat... I am sure someone would know them.

Bruh 1 launches the boat with bruh 2 in the boat. Boat wont start. Its adrift and smacks into a little jon boat a dude had tied to the little dock while he got his truck to take out. Bruh 2's is now in a bit of a panic as he keeps basing this shiny new boat into this little jon boat. He cannot seem to get the trolling motor to work. He ask's if I have a rope or could help him out... turns out I did have some rope and threw it over to him and was able to get the boat off the other one and get him up on the bank... or kind of on it.

Bruh 1 is now back. Took him a long while, think he hit the porta potty. Anyhow he swears it worked fine last time. I told him it sounds like the batteries are bad. He says it cannot be its almost brand new. I asked if he had them on a trickle as it had been cold... he gave me a blank look. He asked if I had cables. I did. He wants to try to jump the starter battery off the trolling battery. Ok. Makes sense. I throw him my cables and he connects the deep cycles to the starter battery.

THEN at urging of Bruh 2, Bruh 1 TURNS ON THE TROLLING THE MOTOR. As bruh 2 explains, its like jumping a car, you run the motor and give it some juice to help the charge from battery 1 to battery 2.

I was like dudes, I am not an expert but I am 100% sure that is not how that works. Bruh 1 was like, yeah, maybe you are right. roflmao

The boat would not jump, I helped them rope it back to the trailer... paint was all messed up from banging into that jon boat. Hour later they are back. They had ran to BPS and confirmed all the batteries were dead or about dead. The mech there swapped them out. Boat started fine and off they went.

Bruh... true story.

I am pretty sure (when I start a sentence like that it is not going to be true) ... but if the outboard has a manual transmission you can push start them pretty easily even with a dead battery. breakdance

Yes he pulled out while they were on the opposite side of the little islet to the ramp trying to jump one battery to the other and running the TM to "juice it up".

He saw what was up and did not seemed too upset, he also was not too inclined to offer help lol... but he had a boat like Docs, like a roughneck alum one... that shiny glitter paint got messed up, did not do anything to the other boat.

And these 2 are out on public water. Good luck up there. I have my share of them down here too.

Yep. See uneducated owners all the time. It’s scary. All ya need to be a bass pro is a mediocre job and a 600 credit score. Anyone can live the dream.

That's the thing that surprised me a bit...they had nice gear, seemed like maybe they know how to fish, and therefore know what they are doing with a fancy bass boat.

No to the boat thing and likely they cannot fish either. But their stuff was really expensive!

A lot of times when I see the really expensive gear, my assumption is that they do NOT know what they are doing. Too many times with fishing and hunting gear the expensive stuff is just a name brand that does not necessarily mean quality. There are of course many exceptions, but all too often the same quality can be had for less than half the price of the big names.

Some of the best times can be had on weekends at boat ramps watching the circus. I really enjoy the ones that block a double ramp while getting mama and kids in the boat so they can hand them all the other carp for a fun filled day on the water.
