I suck at winter bass fishing. I didn’t fish today but I captained my kids in a tournament and I couldn’t put them on one fish.
I have my first tournament of the season next weekend in the 30 degree weather. Yeah, I might as well stay home.

It happens - to everyone.

Best 2 day event I ever had was when the air temp never got past 25deg both days. Had 25 on the first day and 28 the second. Quit both days by 10am and went back to the marina towait for weigh-in. Ftr, I still hate winterfishing...
As stated in other post, just keep chunking.

Just slow everything wayyyyy down if you're having difficulty power fishing in winter. Go to dead stickin ned rigs, drop shots and jigs. If you want to try some faster baits try cranking a red square bill up shallow and for 1 crank for 10-15ft. Also rat'l traps are good winter baits when the water temp is like 45-60 degrees. I go with a red color or shad color. Rely on your electronics more, find baitfish and you'll probably be close to the fish you want to catch. Good luck.

I can't catch bass in cold water. It drives me nuts. I may just chunk a red trap until spring. Maybe I will foul hook 1

Haha go for it i'll bet you catch one if you throw it enough. Try different retrieves too. Slow and steady, let it hit the bottom and pull it up a few fee and let it fall, pull it up and let it fall. Burn it in...if you see them on your graph you'll eventually get bit.

Fish are there just need to slow your presentation. Winter can produce some seriously good fish.

If you were where I think you were (Granbury) don't worry too much about it. I was out there all day saturday too and only foul hooked a 30 lb carp. We fished from 8 to 5:30 and not even much of a nibble.

Where is your tournament this coming weekend?

I agree it’s hard to catch them in the winter. Bring on the hot weather for me.

Yep Granbury! I don’t think I’ll ever fish that lake again. It’s the bane of my existence!

This Saturday is lake Whitney which I’ve never been on! Only my second real tournament ever. I’m a noob if you can’t tell.

Winter fishing can be tough. We had a Jan or Feb club tournament on Whitney several years ago. About 20 boats and I got the ONLY BITE of the day. I caught it and it turned out to be a crappie. Only tournament I've ever fished where zero fish got weighed in.

Join the club. Winter bass fishing is a beating. Been doing this for some time, and my confidence level in 50 degree and colder water is really low. The fact that I just really hate cold weather in general doesn't help either. I would love to fish with one of these guys that seem to really land on the big ones this time of year, but that opportunity has never presented itself.
