I plan on hitting up a few different lakes this year and was wondering about Lake Bastrop. How easy is it to run this lake, pretty safe? Also, any fishing help is appreciated.

Pretty easy to run, small lake. When you see standing timber come off pad, but not much of it to worry about.

Been a couple of years but was a fun day for sure, square bills in the edge of grass lines in about 3-5’ of water absolutely will get you bit.

Done well on flukes also, great numbers lake or was but not so much on size.

There is very little timber in Bastrop. The creeks have some and so does the Boy Scout area. Lake is not terribly deep but it is safe running. As with any lake, run to the outside of points. There is one area on the southwest part of the lake marked by buoys near the south shore ramp that is very shallow. If all else fails, get a map.

Bonus pointer! - the wind is always blowing on Bastrop. You can bet when you go there that it will be blowing 5-10mph from the north or south. It never fails.

Went there a few weeks back and beat the bank and only caught 2, saw several guys out in the middle of the lake chasing some with forward facing sonar. Outlet cove was low 70's everywhere else upper 50's to low 60's. Oh and plenty of timber up some of the creeks, timber didn't product though.

The only real areas to concern yourself with is a rather large shallow coming off a point near south shore, but it is clearly marked. The other is in cedar cove, the north cove around the corner from the north launch. there are two channels, but there is submerged timber to both sides. Once you get about 100yds in from the mouth of the cove you should be off plane, unless you know the lake well.

I didn't lose him at the boat. I shook him off cause I didn't want my hands to get "fishy"
