Marine engines by Suzuki are new to me although they have probably been around a minute.

Anyone familiar with them? I am seeing them as options on higher powered Tritons.....just wondering if they are a viable alternative

Seems like the salt water guys swear by them.

I have a friend who is a Merc master technician who has also worked on Suzuki outboards. He has said they are solid engines though they're a bit newer to the high-end HP sizes. I had a 60HP for 5+ years and had a great ownership experience with it.

I think the further you get away from the coast, the support system decreases dramatically. I think the engines have a great reputation, but their dealership and repair network is behind the curve.

Worked on a few back between 2007 and 2011 when I was helping my boat mechanic. Seemed to be good engines

Have a 1996 Suzuki 150 EFI on my 1996 Basscat and have never had an issue with it
other than normal maintenance. Still runs great.

With that being said, there are far fewer shops that work on them, so you may have to drive to get to one.
Used to be in N. Texas only Roanoke and Longview had shops that worked on them. I think Sartin Marine out
at Fork does now though.

They are good engines. Not as many service centers. If I were buying a highend boat, merc, yamaha. If I am repowering a boat unless its a Yellowfin, Invincible, etc I would buy Suzuki.
They are a lot cheaper.

I had a 1980 Spirit outboard 85 hp. Suzuki entered the market under that name and went by Suzuki in 1982.
Had that boat and motor for a long time and never had any trouble out of it

Never had one, but I do know that I've talked to many commercial crab/oyster guy down in Rockport/Aransas Pass, and they love them. My boat mechanic friend down that way sees them routinely with thousands of hours all the time all in Salt water, never been flushed, just keep changing the oil and water pump. I wouldn't hesitate at all, but like others said, if there isn't anyone to work on them up that way, that would be game changer.

My BIL had a BCB with a Suzuki 150 on it in the late '80s and it was a very reliable engine but was terrible on fuel mileage!

I am sure the new 4 strokes are fuel misers compared to the old ones though!

Great engines but hard to prop on a bass boat. Offshore guys swear by them.

As long as you have a local shop that works on them and can get parts I’ve heard nothing but good about them.

Solid motors, but finding qualified folks to work on them can be difficult. Parts are a more expensive than Merc's.
