"Simply put, Apple deliberately tweaked their software update to slow down the battery in order to cover a malfunction," Will Hummel, a spokesperson from Euroconsumers told The Register. "Planned obsolescence is a deliberate unfair practice to consumers that causes frustration and financial harm." Slowing down the battery isn't quite what happened. In 2017, Apple released iOS 11.2 and 10.2.1 that limited the speed, and ergo power draw, of its CPU cores to, according to the manufacturer, prevent iPhone 6, 6S, and SE units from rapidly draining their tired batteries too quickly and shutting off unexpectedly. Apple had previously offered a battery replacement program for iPhone 6 units. https://www.theregister.com/2021/01/26/apple_italy_battery/

If the update is not compatible with android, you can not get it from the google store. They dont force it on your device. Apple still sucks. When will yall learn

Got a letter from some law firm a while back asking me to be part of a lawsuit... you'd get $25 bucks in the settlement. Still have my 6 in storage... still works slow as molasses.

I have a 6 s and have had it for a couple years, no problems whatsoever. My wife has a galaxy something or other and has issues all the time. I guess it’s just a matter of perspective

Not to justify anything about tech companies ---- but I have been in the semiconductor business over 35 years . Here is what typically happens , as each new generation of iPhone is released , the primary and secondary CPU functions are greatly increased ( Moore's law , smaller geometry process's ) , which allows the firmware to be more easily upgraded AND for additional functions to be added . In addition , the DRAM that supports the CPU and firmware is as old and slow as whatever iPhone you own . At some point , the IOS upgrades have difficulty being done on older slower iPhones ( slower CPU , slower DRAM etc... ) . Eventually , even companies like Apple are forced to spend less time in firmware development to support iPhones that might be 6 or 7 generations old ---- then all the weird stuff starts to happen to your old iPhone . I seriously doubt that Apple is doing this to slow the battery down , but I will guarantee that the older the processor , the more that processor struggles to keep up with the firmware demand and hence draws way more power to execute basic functions .

When will yall learn I have seen tear downs on a ton of cell phones . All types of brands going back at least 10 + years . In addition , I sell products that go into different cell phone companies . There is no comparison to how Apple design and manufacturers a cell phone VS ANY other company . The quality and details that go into an Apple iPhone are NEVER done at the other companies . LIke em or hate em --- their product is just designed , built and serviced better .

The battery in my IPhone 6 died and wouldn’t accept a recharge. It went from showing a full charge to zero in a matter of minutes. My contact list was wiped out along with much of my saved data. Some info was saved in the cloud backup but not everything.

I ran into battery problems with my iPhone 6 in 2019. Had the battery replaced at Batteries Plus Bulbs and still running well today.

I am still running an IPhone 6 on the original battery. When the battery gets to 30%, it will be going down soon. It usually happens when I am using Google Maps driving directions and forget to plug the power in. One time it happened at the Blue River in Oklahoma. I had wandered out of the cell signal area and it died trying to ping a cell tower. It was frustrating because I only brought the phone to take fish pictures. Now I set it in airplane mode if I am somewhere remote.

I thought I was the last person still using an iphone 6. I do need to replace the battery, have to charge it constantly.
