I have a bird 1199 SI HD on the console and a Helix 7 up front. I don't love the Helix and want to replace the unit even though its basically brand new. Would you move the 1199 up to the front and put a new graph at the console or leave the 1199 on the console and get a new one up front?

Correct me if im wrong but SI units have DI but DI units don't have SI? Is that correct? If so, I would think I would want to go with another SI unit, thoughts?

Id like to get a new (used) unit for one of the locations and need some advice. Id like to be in at around a grand for the unit and like I said, im happy to buy one a few years old or older.

Go!

Thanks in advance for the advice on what you'd do with existing graphs and what graph you'd attempt to purchase to go with the 1199.

Yes you are correct.

A CHIRP or Sonar does 2D sonar only.

A DI unit does 2D sonar and Down Imaging

A SI unit does 2D sonar, Down Imaging and Side Imaging.
Neither a Helix 7 SI unit (any generation) or the 1199 has Down Imaging, they have simulated DI views created by blending the two SI pulses.
Starting with the second generation Helix MEGA SI units, they have true Down Imaging created via DI piezo in the SI transducer.

The current Helix models are fourth generation, aka G4N.

Depends on how you fish to a large extent. If you like to deep water fish, or "video game" fish or plan to go to 360 or Mega Iive at some time, I'd try to find a used Helix Mega SI + or DI + for the bow and leave the 1199 at the console. Good luck. 9 or 10 inch. If you're not a deep water fisherman, and don't plan to upgrade, then it boils down to how much you want to spend. I'd still leave the 1199 at the console. Actually it all boils down to how much you want to spend. I like SI at the bow. To me it's worth the money.

I had a Helix 7 SI G3N on the bow of my Skeeter and liked it. Got a good price on a Helix 10 SI Mega G3n. Like that better.

If you're happy with the 1199 at the console, leave it there, and spend all you can on the bow.

I assume you're not networking, or want to. That will change the plan a little if you do, or are.

Just my opinion.
