Does anyone have any info on the new shop going in on Main Street in Grapevine? My wife was wondering around while waiting on a pizza and spotted it. No sign above the place yet, just a sticker on the door. I have been waiting on a local shop to open.

Bet it's a really ni$$$e shop! Think it's associated with the "Big O"?
I lived in Grapevine when Main Street was a little 'ol two-lane road with stores and a BBQ joint, no boutiques. AND, "Grapevine" was dry, no wine or liquor!
Enjoy the new store. IslandJim, former Dove Loop resident

I don't think its associated with any chain. It would be too close to one of their other stores. Its between Northwest Highway and Dove so hopefully it won't be over priced.

Its a flyshop of course its going to be overpriced. With that being said we are in Texas so the folks should at least be fairly friendly.

I have found great deals at local shops over the years. It’s the chains like bass pro and orvis that give fly shops a bad image on pricing.

I've been in flyshops and even worked for one for a while. I get what you're saying. I'm not a fan of big box either. Yes there are deals to be had. The reason they are "overpriced" is not through their pricing but the price that fly gear costs period. There is actually not a ton of mark-up at the actual store. Flies are perhaps the only items where there is traditional retail markup. Fly fishing and fly tying are just flat out expensive hobbies period. They can done for cheaper but at some point in your fishing life your going to drop a pretty penny.

The image that gets under my skin the most is the snobbery associated with fly shops. Its a stereotype that generally rings true and puts a lot of people off.

Ah yes, those were the days. You forgot the snow cone stand right next to Bartley's.

I like the logo on the sticker though.

Quick google search says that store name is a Thomas and Thomas dealer and has a phone number listed as well. FYI

As a fly fisherman, that sounds like fun having a local fly shop. As a business man, sounds like a bad investment in this region. I give it 12 months from opening date to closing.

I find small fly shops to be a hit and miss with being snobs but for the most part I had good luck talking with the shop guys.

I do hope this guy makes it in Grapevine but that area is pretty pricey and just cant see the market of fly fishing in DFW being that high to have a specialty fly shop.

Backwoods in Fort Worth has a great fly shop but they also have almost an REI outdoor activity inventory to help keep the doors open. Heck they actually went bankrupt a few years back but local investors kept them open.

I follow them on Instagram. Looks like the grand opening is February 13th.

I dig small local fly shops wherever I go. The guys at Tailwaters and Backwoods are cool. It's always nice to be able to cast some rods at the shops. Never casted a Thomas & Thomas rod, they sure are fancy. I like fancy. I'll support the shop, and hope it does well.
