Breaking a lake down to find the best 20 areas takes years of practice looking at all the irregular features that the lake may offer. Here are a few that I look for.
- The contour lines on each end of the dam - The protrusions that stick out off the dam - The areas before, during and after a river slam against a shoreline - The irregular feature sitting on the inside spawning bend of creeks - The irregular features sitting on the outside bend of creeks. - Roadbeds that run parallel with the shoreline - Underwater bridges, embankments and rip rap - Submerged Railroads that cut through high ground and cross creeks or rivers - Spawning Flats that involved Dogleg Creeks and the North Shoreline - Marinas and the shade they provide - Drains and Culverts that provides rock and irregular features - Far away areas that extend through the country side - Deep coves and the outside bends they provide - Fence lines that cross the flats to provide mature trees underwater - Pond levees, house foundations and boat houses - Points that block the mouth of coves, know as point blockers - Humps and Islands provide super irregular features - Heavy shoreline cover and deep grass - Drifting next to deep ledges, rubble piles and large flats next to the channel -
