I've known these suckers were in some of the lakes I've been fishing, but I'm seeing them more and more on the spots I'm fishing. Any tips for fishing around them beyond the obvious check your line and retie often? Do they affect braid/mono/fluoro differently?

I think they are equal opportunity line cutters!

Fluoro is much more resistant to being cut by zebra mussels than mono. I distinctly remember reading an article years ago where Rick Clunn was fishing around docks covered with zebra mussels and he was using mono. He is not a big fan of fluoro. He said he switched to fluoro due to the line being more resistant to being cut by the mussels than mono and his hook to land ratio went way up.

Braid is also more cut resistant than mono but if you are concerned about the fish seeing your line it may affect your decision.

Braid is only line that will hold up, somewhat. I have missed many bites even on fresh tied flouro due to zebra muscles nicking the line. Extremely frustrating.
