I have 3 reels now.. that the drag is just gone.. they are a little over a year old..
I have cleaned them... and there was some grease(factory) there.. but still the drag just slips... and dang near free spooling
Anyone else experience this and were you able to resolved it?
Mo

I have had that with other reels but not Diawa. I replaced the drag washers to eliminate the problem

I know you may have thought of this but do you have braid tied straight to the spool?

I know you may have thought of this but do you have braid tied straight to the spool? I had this very problem, make sure you put a piece of tape on the reel before you spool up

I know you may have thought of this but do you have braid tied straight to the spool? Braid will slip when it is cold. It will feel like no drag at all

Wow, I have never had that issue with any brand of reel. Take it in somewhere and see if they can find the problem. That should not be happening.

When you cleaned them, are you sure you put it back together correctly.

Replace the drag washers with carbontex drag washers. Stronger and smoother then stock drag washers.

The tatula may already be carbontex. I replaced all my reels this winter. I like them. I have 2 tatulas, but they are new and I didn't strip them down. My expensive lews were already carbontex

If your reel has a slick spool with no knurling or holes and you tie braid straight to it, it will slip under pressure. The entire "spool" of line will slip on the spool and you will swear it is the drag slipping. That is why you need to put a small amount of mono or fluoro or a piece of tape on the spool before filling it with braid. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/01/full-19947-82100-screen_shot_2021_01_21_at_9.21.06_pm.png) Braid won't slip on a spool like this. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/01/full-19947-82101-screen_shot_2021_01_21_at_9.20.23_pm.png) Braid will slip on this spool. Been there done that! LOL

Two things....
1) Braid on casting reels is best to put a little electrical tape on the spool after you initially tie the line to the spool. This eliminates the braid slip and provides a buffer in a sense for braid digging in too deep.
2) If you're truly having issues with drags...Diawa is great with their warranties. Reach out to Trey at the Tackle Trap. He can help you through this process.

I know you may have thought of this but do you have braid tied straight to the spool? I had never tied braid straight to a spool until I started messing around with spinning gear a few years ago. Took me a couple of trips to realize my Stradic's drag wasn't stripped, I just didn't know what I was doing when I tied the braid directly to the spool.
