I’d bet Mahomes will be playing next week. That hit was hard enough to cause posturing and shoukd taje a couple of weeks to recover. I hooe he plays but that was not a normal concussion. His longterm health is important. I thought it was weird, did not see where he was really ever hit in the head, sure hope he plays, doubt they could win with the back up in there.

People often mistakenly think if a hit does not look bad then person is OK. When I saw he had a brief moment of loss of consciousness and decorticate posturing I knew his melon was scrambled.

Concussion protocol is 5 days. He will play. Its a 5 step program. Not 5 days. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nfl.com/_amp/concussion-protocol-return-to-participation-protocolThe posturing he showed makes it a more serious concussion than most. This is direct from a CBS Sports article: It's impossible to put a timetable on Mahomes' return. The NFL's concussion protocol is not based on length of recovery, but rather a specific five-step rehabilitation plan. That's not necessarily good news for the Chiefs and their fans, but it's not necessarily bad, either. The entire process is specific to each individual.
For reference, however, The Athletic's Lindsay Jones cites NFL concussion data in reporting that the median recovery time for the 29 QBs who suffered a concussion between 2015-2019 was seven days. "Recovery," in that sense, is defined by the QB clearing protocol and returning to the field. In other words, were Mahomes to follow a similar trend, he'd be right on the verge of returning, as the Chiefs are set to play exactly seven days from his injury.
What does Mahomes have to do to return? Complete the concussion protocol. To be specific, as explained on NFL.com, the recovery steps are as follows:
The player rests until signs and symptoms return to baseline status, and undergoes neurological, cognitive, and balance tests The player begins cardio exercise and/or stretching and balance training under the oversight of the team's medical staff The player increases exercises and/or sport-specific activities and begins supervised strength training The player continues training and resumes non-contact football activities (e.g. throwing, running, etc.) The player is cleared by the team physician for full contact and passes an independent neurological exam, then returns to practice When will the Chiefs decide on his status? There's no rush here. Mahomes cannot even return to practice until clearing the first four phases of concussion protocol, and it's possible he could enter the AFC Championship Game without a single full practice in the first place. In other words, Kansas City likely won't -- and, technically, can't -- declare Mahomes good to go until the doctors say so. That could mean Wednesday. It could mean just before the Chiefs prepare to fight for another Super Bowl bid.

The players on the field should not have helped him up or stay up, they should have laid him down on the field. It looked like part of the hit was the pulling up on the neck area. It was good to see him jog to the locker room. The NFL did a good thing awhile back in taking the call away from the team's doctor as to whether a player could return to the game or when the player can return to practice/next games. A lot of players careers were shortened by the , "yeah, I'm ok coach" and then playing while still in danger of further damage. When Mahomes went out with the dislocated knee he came back faster than anyone expected, but the team stepped up and made a backup QB look good. KC will have a game plan for the Bills that will work for the backup and he will get plenty of practice reps this week. Mahomes might be back or may not. It's harder for the Bills to prepare not knowing which QB they will face, but that's only on their defensive side of the game. I would be surprised if the Chiefs make an announcement as to whether he clears concussion protocols until the end of the week or whatever time they have to by NFL rules. Think that is like 1 hour before the game.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I'm sure the Chiefs want it to be a pinched nerve. Ultimately its the NFL's decision since he is officially in the protocol. Team Drs alone cannot clear him. For his sake I hope it is just a pinched nerve and is less impactful than a concussion. They still need an explanation for the glossy eyes and dazed look as he wobbled off the field.

Umm no he just needs to go thru the 5 phases of the concussion protocol which is the same for pinched nerve stinger etc. Concussion Game Day Checklist When a player receives an impact to the head, the player goes into the Concussion Protocol if: the player exhibits or reports symptoms or signs suggestive of a concussion or stinger (a nerve pinch injury); or, the team Athletic Trainer, booth ATC spotter, team Physician, NFL game official, coach, teammate, sideline Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant (UNC) or booth UNC initiates the protocol. Then the player must be immediately removed to the sideline or stabilized on the field to undergo the concussion assessment, outlined in the checklist below:

The entire link has a lot of information, but you should try reading the part about pinched nerves and stingers again, because a pinched nerve or stinger relates to concussion protocol in a very specific way.

From a Online post.
“Patrick passed all of his tests last night. He didn’t actually hit his head, there was a nerve in his neck that got tweaked that made him out of it. He’s getting testing done on his neck/nerve today but did clear all tests last night.”
