Fished Palestine, north end Saturday ... water temps 46 to 48.. paddled 6 miles round trip and never got a bite. Made a move to another area of the lake Sunday and had a great day for me. Thought it might be another tough day but it turned out way better than I had even hoped for. No monsters but 4.5 big, a couple in the 3.5 to 3.75 range and two in the 2 lb range. I missed a bunch. They were slamming the swimbait early.. had a real good one bury me in the vegetation and shake off before I could get to it, had one bust me off on a rod I only had 12 lb test on throwing spinnerbait, and missed 5 or 6 that I never got a hook in good and they spit it quick. Later in the afternoon the bite continued but they were just barely taking it. Started setting the hook early as it was so hard to feel the way they were taking it. Had one that I thought was a bite, pull the bait just a little more to see if I could feel it on and the fish was already coming at me... I swing on it.. nothing, crank as fast as I can to catch up and swing for the fences again and still slack. Damn bait was almost under my kayak when it dropped it heading for deeper water. Get out there folks, when you find the fish you'll find more than one.

After seeing Lconn4's east Tx yak fishing reports I reached out to him and invited him to meet me on Palestine. We were going to fish the north end on Saturday but I had to postpone to Sunday. Lucky for me Louis went to the north end anyway and found out it was no good, yet. So we went to another area on Sunday that turned out pretty good! My catch rate was not nearly as good as his but I couldn't get my fish to hook up on the baits I was throwing. Just before he caught his good one I lost a decent fish that might have been 5lb's, didn't have her on long but I couldn't turn her out of the stuff.

Here's the weight-in and me jokingly calling his fish a 3 poundah!

Good times, James! roflmao

Guys, if you ever have a question about big swimbaits, JPeel is the man! I've never fished a big hardbait but after seeing the action on some of the ones he was throwing, I'm tempted. His collection of baits is incredible! You've all heard the names of the highest end baits, but there are many out there that he has that you haven't. I'm not sure he fished these two but it gives you an idea. He had baits that you could change the diving bills on, change the tail action on, unreal. Hope you'll post some of them James for all to see.

I'm probably not the expert that Louis has made me out to be but fishing with the big baits has been a passion of mine for a long time and I fish swimbaits / big baits exclusively. Over the years I've acquired a few really unique baits as well as some new, innovative baits that change what a "swimbait" can do. The carp in the photo is a hand carved Japanese bait that I just got. It's the first one I've seen available and I snatched it up as soon as I saw it for sale. I fished it all day Sunday, never took it off. Had the one good fish on it as soon as we got into them and missed several more bites on it. The rat didn't see water since I just can't bring myself to fish it in mid 40's water temps.

Here's a pic of a couple of my favorites along with the DRT Klash 9 that has the interchangeable bills and tails.

And before anyone gives me a raft of cr-p about "that's stupid to pay that much money for a bait" or "my $3 goober bait catches more fish", this isn't about me giving a rats azz about how you like to fish. It's a challenge and a passion that drives me, and I can afford it hammer
