I am looking at the Rapala 50 lb. digital scale at Academy when I see the Reel Sonar model. They look exactly alike except the Reel Sonar model has a spring loaded fish lipper. Are they made by the same people?

Any comments?

I bought a small digital scale from ebay a while back. Cap. 110# very accurate. Now selling for $ 6.99 free shipping. Can't recall the name but it was black with a blue digital readout.
I got this scale for the anglers at tournaments we work to assist them in fish weights prior to getting to getting on my scale.

Probably the same manufacturer. I know Rapala doesn’t have a dedicated digital scale factory. I see this a lot in audio equipment. Most companies just spec out a product to a manufacturer, then the manufacturer finalizes the product for approval. Sometimes more then one company wants a similar product, so something minor is changed to an existing product and rebadged with a different brand name. Happens a lot in TVs and appliances too. Hell. Even autos. Think GM. Even Toyota and BMW are sharing platforms.

I bought the Rapala scale and it weighed very accurately. My Wife, who fishes with me about 95% of the time, didn't like the fact that it didn't have one of those spring loaded fish lippers. So I took it back and got the Reel Sonar type. It was the same price and had a lipper. It weighs spot on right now also. We'll see.

i bought a food grade scale that is accurate to a tenth of an ounce. Only drawback for the pros it only weighs to 10 lbs. I put a small plastic basket to put fish in , ..Seems easier than holding fish trying to get it still and keeps scale cleaner. No slime. It has to be on a solid surface so it may not be for everyone. I have one, too. That's how I knew my Berkeley combo fish lipper/scale was so off. I got that ReelSonar scale but the fish lipper is so hard to open, I just ordered a different type from Ebay. Sort of like the one the MLF scale has.
