One last question. Does the G2N Mega SI also do down imaging? Thanks!

Hey Wayne. Found the transducer. Current one has 2 wires coming off the back of the unit but one entering the transducer. New one is single line all the way. What do you think is the deal?

It has the y splitter cable. Your getting si/ di from the si ducer and getting 2d from a shoot thru in the bilge area most likely unless you have another transom mount ducer somewhere

Dang, so this transducer won't shoot 2d? there's not another transom mount so it's gotta be in the hull somewhere. I'll have to yank out batteries to see. Thanks Diesel. Since it a splitter is there a way to still use this ducer and a splitter to run both?

It will do 2d just plug it directly to the unit if that's what you want or disconnect the old si ducer from the y splitter cable and connect the new transducer to it,

Most guys use the splitter cause it can be difficult to get on plane 2d depth readings from the si ducer and you can mount the si ducer higher for a little more protection from damage

All the splitter cables does it disables the 2d element in the si ducer so you can use a separate 2d ducer. Temp readings will come from the si ducer

Cool. Thanks Diesel. Old ducer is shot. Cracked and reading crazy numbers all over the board.

A shoot-thru transducer has two or three pins in the plug. That would be connected to the smallest cable on the Y cable that has Dual Beam on a tag.
The transducer in the picture is the Side Imaging one and would connect to the largest cable on the Y cable.

Also the shoot-thru needs to match the SI transducer. Older shoot-thru transducers are 83/200 kHz and the MEGA SI+ is HW CHIRP 2D sonar.

Any of you guys have a good number for Jsplinter that started the first post on this thread? Sent him a pm but hasn't seen it yet. Is he still on here?

Wayne, I hate to keep coming to the well but you and Diesel are the best sources I have. I got the transducer working but I think I'm going to a 12" at the console. So currently running a Gen 2 Chirp DI/GPS Helix 10 at the bow and Gen 2 Chirp SI Helix 9 at the console. I'm eventually adding either a Livescope or 360 to the bow, but for now am buying a 12" (possibly 15") for the console. So questions are as follows:
1) will the thru hull transducer currently used for the Gen2's work with Gen 3 or 4's? If not do the new units come with transom AND thru hull transducers?
2) If I have to switch to any of these will they still network with the Gen 2 10 up front?
3) Best bang for the buck unit for down and side imaging on the 12"/15" I'm shopping for?

Thanks to you both!

Randy

1. No, and No. The standard 2D frequency for third and fourth generation Helix units is HW CHIRP.

2. Yes if the unit operating software is current.

3. The G4N's are selling as fast as dealers can get them. There has been a shortage of units since Spring 2020 due to that COVID thing--good luck finding any G3N models. So your bang will mostly likely be MSRP. You can see what the MSRP is for all current models is on the Humminbird website.
