Crappie are not line shy. Tying straight to the jig is no issue

I do not use braid and I have always tied my jigs direct to my line. thumb

The only issue is braid is thinner than comparable mono. So if you use 12 lb braid, it may be the diameter of 4 lb mono. some cheaper jig heads will slid through the eye if you use a loop knot. quality jigs and this is no issue.

I second this. Lost a few due to the loop knot sliding out through the gap. Started squeezing the eyes shut on my jigheads. I use braid on my jigging rods and tie directly to the jig.

Well heck I'm running some 8 year old Eagle claw 10# test mono (not on the reel for 8 years). very light colored. I have been adding 3 foot of 6# test fluorocarbon to make my line less visible. I do catch fish.

PowerPro Super8Slick 15lb no leader for me. I will be going up to 20lb next spool because of issue with pulling thru gap in jig eye, as stated above.

Use 8# test/ 2# diameter KastKing braid tied directly to jig. Excellent casting, strike detection and hook sets even using 1/24 oz jigs + plastics.
To save on buying more braid I load more than half the reel with some other line (mono, braid I don't like) and the rest with a braid length of over a casting distance.
