I bought the boat a couple of months ago. It's a 2020 Nitro Z20. It came with a Solix 12" at console. The problem I'm having when on chart view and idling, the course heading line that's green(I think that's what it's called) is at a 45 - 90 degree angle from my boat icon. The line is going towards where the actual boat is going, but the boat icon is like sideways moving. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but I'm not that familiar with Solix.

Solix does not have an internal heading sensor, you will need to add an external gps/heading sensor to have boat direction.

So what is the green line coming out of front of boat icon? I have an external GPS pick on rear of boat. When I’m on plane it works fine, but when graphing it sits at a 45 - 90 degree angle.

The creen line is COG, it represents the the direction the boat is moving. So if you are drifting sideways the green line will extend from the side of the boat icon indicating the direction the boat is moving. If you add the heading sensor a gold or yellow line will extend from the boat for heading. When going .6 mph or less the gps can't track so adding the heading sensor will solve that isue

Thanks, but the problem is I’m not drifting. I’m graphing at 3 or 4 mph and it still does it. It makes going back over waypoints almost impossible. I think it’s a setting somewhere in the navigation menu. It lists COG and some other heading and it does it by degrees I believe. Boat is in storage right now so not sure of what mine is set on.

I would suggest to Next time out restore chart defaults. If that doesn't work restore system defaults

COG is Coarse Over Ground and is calculated by GPS.
Heading is compass direction indicated by a Heading Sensor.
Both of those have digital readouts in compass degrees.

If you select Chart Orientation as Course Up, the direction the boat is moving will be at the top of the screen.
If you select Chart Orientation as Head Up and have a heading sensor, the direction the bow is pointed will be at the top of the screen (IF the Heading Sensor is not being interfered with.
If you select Chart Orientation as North Up, the top of the screen will be North.

If you have a Heading Sensor installed ( AS GPS HS, Lowrance Point1, or iPilot LINK), that controls the direction the position icon is pointed.
Do you have a heading sensor and if so where is it?

I have chart selected as North up. The heading sensor is back where most GPS pucks are located behind the console near the splash well.

Like I said though, when on plane it’s perfectly in front of the boat icon.

The lime green line is COG= GPS calculation, it is not heading. With Humminbird units, when at less than .6 mph, that line goes away and the position ion changes to a O. That indicates GPS cannot calculate coarse.

A Heading Line (when turned on) will be perfectly in front of the boat icon no matter what direction you are moving or when you are not moving. On a SOLIX, it is orange color.

IF you have a heading sensor near the battery cables, the electro-magnet effect will mess up the compass since the outboard is charging the battery. High Current does the electro-magnet thing. Same thing if the heading sensor is near the trolling motor power wires--that high current thing.

Would need heading sensor gps puck to get heading. If you get a heading sensor puck you can have both heading line and cog displayed at the same time or you can turn both off or choose just one

I have both, but I can’t get the COG to line up with boat icon so I’ll probably turn it off.l

If your gps puck is gps heading sensor puck then you can adjust the offset. This is a video with the onix but everything is the same with a Solix

Now I’m confused. Maybe I don’t have the heading sensor. Maybe it’s just the GPS puck unless GPS is internal. I don’t think my puck has any writing on it. How can I tell if I have one or not by using the Solix functions?
