School me on a "exterior" camera that will work on AA batteries and has Good motion sensor detection and records quality night time picture/video clips (10 seconds) lets say.

That will store/send the data to my phone (wifi) and send me alerts when it is activated.

No subscription fee for storage on some 3rd party cloud.

Price???

I looked at a bunch of security camera options 2 years ago and chose Ring. Simple, easy to set up, reliable, reasonably priced. While mine are wired, they have battery operated ones. HD video. Infrared or flood lights. $3 a month for hosting per camera or $10 for unlimited cameras. Alerts you when there is motion, but you can set alert sensitivities. No need for a hard drive. I have 3 here and 2 in Quitman- has been a good experience.

I wouldn't waste my time on battery powered cameras. Once you need them, they will be out of battery or since you have to install them low to be able to change batteries, someone may just pull them down.

I have Arlo. They are rechargeable. Batteries last for months. You get warnings when the battery level is low. HD cameras. I like them. 300 bucks or so for the system and three cameras as I recall. No monthly fee. Saves 7 days of video I think.

We've got a Ring camera, and use its rechargeable battery. I probably charge it every two months, maybe...

I have 5 Blink cameras primarily used for my Eastern Screen Owl nesting box and other areas of the back yard. I have a couple for security in the front. I have used these for a couple of years and find changing out the batteries about once a year.

I did catch a girl with a machete in my front flower bed cutting off my elephant ears a couple times this fall.
