Hey guys,

So.. the "boat saga" is finally over.. heh.. she's fit for service and ready to head to the coast.. er.. in the cold.. lol

So, deciding what is worth going after Jan or Feb.

Is there much offshore fishing worth going after in these colder months?

Need to see how she handles offshore now.

Thanks

R

Well, not a ton of input, but am reading that Jan and Feb are still good months out there for all sorts of fish. I personally like Vermillion, so will check out some spots I have on my maps.

Hoping to get to know some folks down there on the coast that I can network with I do not need fishing spots.. heh, have those.. just prefer to have folks to say hello with and share info with and stories of fish I never actually caught wink Nothing is more fun than being able to lie about a trip with others.. lol

Also, gives me the chance to fill a boat if I need to go fishing and do not have anyone from here.. heh

Welp... see ya guys out there!

Russ

There is good fishing offshore year around in Port Aransas. Kingfish, vermilion snapper, grouper, tuna, wahoo and sharks are commonly caught in January. If you are lucky you could even come across a mako. Stop by Dolphindocks and ask them what is biting. They should be able to give you a good idea what you can find.

Excellent. I like slipping in to DD. I used to go every other month, when I was single.. lol. That is why I got the boat...."I" can pay for "me" to go every month, cheaper than this boat lol... but... I cannot take 2 kids and a wife or friends.. and I ran out of friends that would go when I wanted to due to them always getting sick lol.

Anyway, all those trips and never caught a mahi....do not care for a ton of sharks, but actually kept one once and cooked it and was quite surprised at how well it tasted.

I had so much verm and snapper, never got around to most the rest. Caught a lot of tuna, never cooked it heh..

So, now.. making room to cook more wink

Not a fan of kings... but I want to try the dip that deermeatfordinner made on a video after honey smoking a king.. that looked good wink

I am also not fully set up. I have 4 6/0 Penn Senators on bent butts, and like 4 4/0 Penns and a few 4/0 reels I picked up from Cabelas .. plus odd and end stuff, so, looking forward to upgrading as I go, but this will do for now.

Okay.. rambling. Anyway, thanks guys.. weather holds out.. going to be awesome... SO looking forward to being down there!

Russ
