My son and I hit the water this afternoon looking for open water fish. Took a while to find them but we managed 34 dead sticking 1/8th and 1/4th ounce jigs in 34-40 foot of water. They were pushing the shad up onto deep water flats. Probably caught just as many larger sandies as well. This is a great way to chase crappie in the winter time. I will post the jigs we used a little later and a few more pics of my son and his first fish on a jig he tied.

Sandie was the first fish my son has ever caught on a jig that he tied himself and the bass swallowed the jig all the way into its gullet. Have never witnessed that before.
