Please tell me what yall mean by this please.

From what I know about dead sticking, it’s pretty much just dropping down a heavy jig and big swim style bait(usually 5-7 inches) and letting it do it’s thang. Just the motion of the boat will give it some action.

I am no expert but the above statement is true. Find a group of fish and slowly drift thru them or and not moving the bait. Most people use a fluke type bait or a slab with either a fly or crappie jig tied about 2 feet up the line

Just like using live minnows for crappie fishing. Drop it down to where you mark them and hold the rod still and wait for the bump. One important thing is you want your soft plastic to sit horizontal in the water. I've seen at times where this will make a significant difference, tying a loop knot will make it easier to keep the dead stick jig head ( these are all I very use http://stores.mtpocketstackle.com/screw-lock-dead-stickers-1-2-oz-2-oz-5pack/) sit horizontal. Drift or trolling motor speed needs to be slow, I try and stay about 0.5 mph, I prefer trolling motor to drifting cause I have a lot more control with direction and speed. Moving by trolling motor or drifting has been way more productive than spot locking on top of them, especially with a thumper

I went out today and got totally skunked. I fished between noon and 5. I fished Holiday Humps, Wolf Cove Humps, humps by the dam, Sun Point, Cloud Poiint, Finger Point, Rabbit Cove, and the “point” off the state park (not sure what it’s called, but I’ve caught a ton of fish there in spring, summer, and fall. I thumped in water between 20’ and 46’. I was looking for bait with fish under it but I don’t think I ever found that. The bait was holding right off the bottom in almost every spot. As far as I could tell, there were no feeding fish. So I have a couple of questions... First, in the attached pics, that is all bait, right? I tried fishing a foot or two above these clouds just in case there were some hybrids mixed in that I couldn’t see. I also tried fishing right off the bottom “under” the bait. Obviously, nothing worked. Second, I may have just been a victim of a day that was “too pretty”. The lake was like glass and there were no clouds anywhere. Let me know your thoughts if you have any. I appreciate it.

May have been the day too.....I fished today at my home lake and it was a slow day. Bright blue bird skies. I had hundreds of fish on the graph and only caught 8 fish in 4 hours instead of the 50 plus fish I was expecting. From what I have been taught a bright sky with zero clouds equals high barometric pressure and has a negative impact on the fish's behavior. This little rule has proven to be true for me as it was today. Fish almost state wide seem to have a sweet zone the fish hang out in from what I have read through the last few years and that usually is 20-25 foot down in deeper water in winter time...i'm sure some lakes are a little different but that is an excellent starting depth

Tough day here, too. Marked tons of fish but only one bite. Was pretty consistent with what I saw with other fishermen on Canyon Lake. Still better than packing up Christmas decorations.

Stripers were tough today also on the Brazos above Whitney but the magnum sandies were non stop

We went on Saturday and had a pretty good day. We put 30 fish in the boat all deadsticking with a slow drift using Arigs and flukes. Water temp was 44 degrees and it started out windy which was good but as the wind died we used the trolling motor to keep us moving. Tawakoni can be tough in the winter, we just found some fish that would bite, and the bite was real light. If you feel anything set the hook.

Well, this is reassuring. I appreciate your input. I’ll chalk it up to the weather. I knew it may be tough, but I figured I’d ar least find a few and maybe catch some.

Yes, I use the arig just like a fluke. Same type of bite.
