couple years ago , i was using a hose to wash down under my boat --- it's outside on cement slab --- under the boat was a 45 slug , with a big dent it it . It apparently landed on my driveway and bounced under the boat . Super glad it didn't hit my house or my boat and put a hole in one of them .

It's very stupid to shoot in the air like that.

Consider a bullet shot straight into the air at 90 degrees, what is the return velocity and energy for a common 45 slug?

This. A bullet fired straight up or somewhat straight up wouldn’t have the energy to penetrate a roof.

Stupidity or ignorance. Most likely the former.

One of our neighbors had a big lean-to off a metal building. I accidently stuck one through it, it was there for several years before he noticed, I think I might've even been out of high school when my dad asked me about it. Said hey when did you shoot that arrow into Boo-Boo's shop? Uhhh like in 5th grade.

It was so obvious, you could see it from the street, and it still had a little angle when it stuck, pointed right into our backyard.

Probably .243 or .380, amirite?

All the ones I’ve seen were pistol bullets. 9mm most commonly but 45 and .380 as well. Haven’t seen rifle bullet. All have also been in Ft Worth and not rural areas where I live.

This ^, common sense just isn't common. With the price of ammo myswell just start throwing dollar bills in the air, at least that way you won't hurt anyone with your stupidity.

Come to Wichita! When I was in college we had a house in a neighborhood that was in a gang injunction area. One of my neighbors had a hole in their back yard where any celebration they'd get whatever semi auto rifles he'd bought off whoever and they'd usually, shoot'em into the hole, but they were big like 7.56, or 8mm... He was a trash truck driver, always finding interesting things and was always trying to sell me stuff. Only bought one gun off him, wish I'd gotten more now....

We had something similar to this on Saturday evening....luckily it wasn't a round that came into the house.

The firing started at 11:50 PM went until 12:15 AM. Shotgun blasts every few minutes or so and our house / property being sprayed with the BB's. Luckily they were not penetrating the house, guest house, or garage. We had to call the police out as it went on way too long and it was hitting our driveway and vehicles as well.

After the police arrived, the shooting stopped, which I was hoping we could've caught them. This is the first time this has happened either.

I know it's a shotgun and less lethal than an actual round, but its the principal of gun safety and us having a newborn grandson that got me fired up.
