I have spot lock, be a long while until I can save for the livescope (it is on the top of my list) - trust me when I say that I leave a lot of crappie in the lakes for others I am hoping my fishing buddy gets one for his boat.. it will save hours on my engine and miles on my truck

I remember the days when you lined up Brushpiles with landmarks, dropped a buoy, and spent more time positioning the boat than fishing.
I remember as a kid , fishing with Dad. Only crappie fished in the spring in visible cover.

Spot lock - never (cause I have Motorguide), but with anchor - ALWAYS (I use the Xi5).
Livescope - never, cause I can't justify the expense. I've finally got the cost per pound of crappie down to about $150, and yes I catch plenty. 😅

I don't have spotlock or livescope.. with covid and the wife losing her job I don't see getting it in the near future. It is hard to stay on a spot .. I may have to stick to catfishing and just tie up to timber

I have both but agree that they only expand places you can fish. Plenty of places to catch crappie without it. Creeks from the bank, bridges, standing timber, docks.
It helps if you are skilled with a pedal trolling motor. If you don't have spot lock or patience or strength to work a pedal all day, then you are best to tie up to a tree or bridge pillar.
Here is a tip, sink a few brush piles about 20 feet to the north of a few good trees or bridges. You can fish the timber from the front of the boat and the brush from the rear when the normal south wind blows. maybe your brush pile will get less pressure than the timber.

Me. I am on youtube and trying to grow my channel and simply cannot complete with those that have it. Going to start saving for one. Probably going to take a while LOL. For me, it is about being efficient. With the limited time I have now, I can go in and work a place over in the kayak.

I have both, but I don’t always use it. Besides that, I’m still trying to learn the Livescope. I’ve never been a crappie fisherman until this year and my partner and I have caught as many drifting as we have jigging. It’s all fun though ! I should add that he taught me all I know about drift fishing for crappie, (also known as teaching minners how to swim).
