Financed my 2014 F-150 for four years but paid in off in three. I drive 25-30K a year and would keep a truck longer than 5 years if it weren't for the mileage. Bought a new F-150 in April of this year. Had cash to pay for it but interest rate was zip so using the banks money. My wife's Lexus is a 2017 with 16K miles on it and it's paid for. We'll probably keep hers until we are both unable to drive.

I doubt that 0% interest rate is real, especially if financing through dealership. And I sure doubt that banks or credit unions are 0%. I pay cash and negotiate hard for the bottom dollar. And without trade in. The best deal does not come easy and you have to be patient. Then upon closing, they try to slip other stuff in that are high profit items.

That's been the way I do it, wife has different idea about things but she usually goes 6 or 7 years as she drives very little. Over 200k miles on mine I will ditch if there is any issue to speak of. For me that's about 6 to 7 years.

0% interest is real. Negotiate your best cash price then asked them to finance it. I did that on my Tundra and financed it for 5 years at 0%. Had the cash to pay it off put it in a new account and let the payments come out of there. I never needed the cash but it was a good option to have available.

I like the advice to keep a vehicle twice as long as your notes, sounds solid. Only problem with selling used vehicles is then and the buyer having to pay higher interest from a bank.

But generally I keep used vehicles too long.

Kia and Hyundai offer 0% all the time...and Subaru, Toyota and several others have this year as well. Subaru had it for 63 months, and Mazda was at 60 as well. You just have to have a good enough credit rating. I walked out with 0% for 72 months (it's scheduled to be paid off in 57 months because I increased the payment), no down payment, and no payment for 90 days. I have excellent credit. My Sonata is financed through Hyundai (done at the dealership); my Soul that also had 0% was financed through Kia...and all you have to do is negotiate the price before you walk into financing (including TTL) and walk if they try to change it. It's not hard, especially in today's world. I did almost everything online when I bought my car in September. I spent less than an hour total at the dealership and that includes the test drive, negotiations, and signing the paperwork. Easy peasy.

Same, wife usually gets a new one every 3 years or so, but we just paid hers off and she's content to keep it, will be nice to not have a payment for awhile

There is usually a game between upfront rebate or 0 percent you have to play. I have done both and payed cash sometimes. Depends on mood. I will say I dont like reliving purchase every month so the write a check thing is always nice if you can swing it. I dont get to wrapped up in the buying process. I dont enjoy spending time at car dealership at all. It's my least favorite thing.

Yep. Sometimes you come out better with the rebate, sometimes it's better with 0% and sometimes it's a wash. Sometimes one of them requires a larger down payment, or other weird stuff. You just gotta read the fine print.

I enjoy the game of buying a car, as long as the sales person isn't too much of an ***. If they are, I enjoy getting the deal I want even more, but it's a bit more of a headache. I'll say this, Hiley was probably the easiest to work with in a long time.

If the financing is coming from the manufacturer, it's absolutely real. Usually the choice is 0% financing or a cash rebate.

It’s a good feeling. Paid my 2015 F250 off a couple years ago. Has right at 70k miles on it now. Been getting the itch but I think I will just hang on to it for a while.

I drive 22,000 to 25,000 miles a year on average...just in my car. That doesn't include rental cars for trips, or when I use my mom's truck. That's what so hard about keeping cars that long for me. If I was like my friend in Dallas that drives 3,500 miles or less a year, Yeah, I'd probably go 20 years on a vehicle. roflmao

I have driven less than 5K since 2019 Sept.
