Gotta have all the luck we can get for 2021. This all starts with eating your blackeyed peas today. It’s gonna be a good luck push for me on what I want to accomplish this year. Ate some after praying in the new year at midnight...and ate 2 bowls this morning. On to cabbage and potatoes for lunch.

The history of Black Eyed Peas bringing good luck dates back to the Civil War, when Northern troops destroyed most all the crops in the South. Thinking Black Eyed peas were weeds, they didn't waist their coal oil on them. Many of Southern citizens felt very lucky to have something to eat...thus the tradition lives on. Cow Peas, another name, with rice were known as "Jumpin Jack". Our family have always followed this tradition since I can remember. Good stuff cooked with a ham bone, and cut up green onions, served with Cornbread.
