I've been in a new home for 2 years. Today I replaced a 5th failed breaker. The breakers are Eaton "All in one" arc fault and ground fault protection. They are easy to replace, but cost about $60 each. My builder says: "Sorry you're having trouble with breakers".

I'm the only person I know locally with this problem. Wondering if anyone on the forum has similar experience.

Thanks,
JAlfred

Those breakers have a 10 year warranty according to the link below. Lots of other stuff on them, best of luck!

I'd be concerned as to the why they are failing. Perhaps something not wired correct and back feeding to neutral or ground. I'd have that checked vs just replacing parts.

If you are in a subdivision built by one builder, talk to your neighbors and see if they are having issues too.
The builder may have had a different electrician do your house or he may have received a bad batch of circuit breakers.
Is it different circuit breakers or just the same one?
I would start a log of which circuit breaker and what date. Keep your receipts. Toss the old circuit breakers in a box with a tape label of date and location. Search the Internet for the part number.

what amperage is it?

are they tripping multiple times before they go bad?

is it the same one every time?

what circuit do they feed, bedroom, kitchen etc.

We have those same breakers, and once in a blue moon if the power goes out, the one for the fridge will trip. As far as a total failure, we haven’t had one.

20 amps
Trip once and done; install new breaker and symptom gone (so far at least)
Different circuit each time so far
Yesterday the garage circuit was affected; I had to open my garage door manually.

This is reasonable and has occurred to me. However, it's been a different circuit each time, and replacing the failed breaker fixes the problem. If the new breakers start failing, then I will start looking more closely at possible wiring issues.

Custom home, so nothing to compare with. I'm starting to lean toward the bad batch idea.

Bad batch, or maybe they used recycled (used ones pulled from another home). We have a thrift store in town that has a lot of used breakers for sale at pennies of what a new breaker would cost.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I haven't previously seen this document; lots of good information. My breakers are type CH, so seem to have lifetime warranty. Eaton tech support initially told me warranty was handled by the distributor. The distributor vigorously disagreed and went into a rant about Eaton trying to do this. Eaton finally told me I would have to ship the breaker(s) to their facility for evaluation. At the time I had only two failed breakers, so decided to let it go and cut my losses. Now, with three more having failed, I regret that decision.
