I am having the worst Winter of fishing that I can remember. I have zeroed 4 out of the last 5 fishing trips. None of my go-to winter lakes are not working for me. Went to Sam Rayburn today and goose-egged. Maybe I should take up......................Naw.

December always seems to be hit and miss for me but January seems to always be a good starting point for the year. Spoons, blade baits and red rattletraps.

What are you fishing for? Crappie is pretty good on Lewisville right now.

It has been a weird year for me too. Around thanksgiving I had a couple awesome days, since then off and on. I’ve been trying to learn the deep fish game but haven’t got it figured out. I know Rayburn being 4’ low is not helping me at all. Lol. I went out yesterday and only caught two. Both were nice bass but I threw a jig for several hours and never got bit on it. Both bites were shallow on a trap while trolling to the next spot to fish the jig. I always target big fish in the winter as I catch most of my big fish then. I know it has been colder than normal. You saying your have issues on other lakes make me feel better! Lol I only fish Rayburn since I moved here several years ago. I’m going to keep trying to hit them in the head with a jig. I’ll sling a trap and a jerk bait on the right days. It won’t be long and they will be stacking up for the big push to spawn. I just hope that we get some water in Rayburn. No where for the fish to hide while spawning, I like it in the buck brush! Good luck.

Rayburn is a lot of water to try to figure out. I threw a lipless crankbait, a swimming jig, a spinner bait, a crank bait, a chatter bait and a paddle tailed swimming minnow. I even tried a buzz frog. Nada. I'll keep trying. It can't get much worse.

Instead of thinking that you arenot catching fish, just consider it to be casting practice. All the professional atheletes practice their craft.

Think deeper. Sinking jerk bait or jig. Twenty-five to thirty feet can be good but they can be much deeper at this time of year.

The jerk bait bite was really good today! Targeted rock in 15 FOW and less and they were eating it. Mostly 2-3 pound fish with a 5+ kicker later in the day. Gotta love some winter time fishing! 48-50 degree water and the Megabass 110 +1 was the ticket. [Linked Image]

I am beginning to believe that December is just not a good month any more.

Any tips for January bass fishing at Grandbury? Main lake wood? Main lake rock? Main lake anything? Up and down Brazos River? Help? I thank you in advance!

I fish PK for Stripes and sandies, the BB fishermen tout the deep bite on structures with Carolina rigs !! WE catch a number of good size BB dead sticking in 35 to 50 fow always drifting along with the bait.
