Rarely have I seen so much prime fish habitat with almost no fish. I spend 6 hours there yesterday and only caught one trout and had two bites from sunfish and that's it. Didn't see any sigh of bass or catfish. I saw a couple carp from my kayak and several small greenish sunfish. I didn't see anyone else catch anything either, though one guy apparently lost one stocker. This is a great park, it would be awesome for swimming but the fishing is pitiful. They should at least plant some bluegills or something in there.

That river has a tendency to flood during the times that we get some heavy rains.
If you look at that photo where those cypress trees fork, that is where the water has risen to many times in the past, and you'll notice tops of some of those trees broken off.
Stocking of the park annually with trout that will die as the water warms and those that aren't caught will get eaten by the birds, other than that everything else is native and fends for itself.

You need to hang out a while over in the Bluegill section with those guys!
They fish all the rivers and creeks in the area, and they have no problem "catching" rather than just practice casting.
They mostly use the Bait of Champions and catch a plethora of species! fish

That part of the Medina River gets fished hard. Also during the summer months there are a ton of swimmers which intern scatter a lot of fish. I fished the park several times during the week days this past summer and did OK. Caught some nice Bluegill, and a couple of small bass. I also caught a couple of nice Redear. thumb

Side Note: If you cross the road at the far end of the park there is an extension to the park. Follow the trail to river and fish up river. Fishing is a lot better there. cheers
