Hi all,

I'm new to fishing and I am needing advice on what weather is ideal for fishing, raining, windy, hot, cold, warm.. what temperture of water is good for fishing. Which is better to fish during high tides or low tides? Right now I'm sticking to the piers, jetties and some wade fishing... any advice would be appreciated smile

not trying to sound like a smarta$$, but anytime the weather allows you to go is a good time. just try to fish on moving tides, either in or out.

Ask questions and learn from the people around you while your fishing on them piers etc. You just might catch a few pointers on this site too.
welcome

Low sky light wind with some tide movement are usually the epic big trout days. Redfish with a bright sky, easier to sight fish. Flounder with super low tides and ditches. But anytime is the right time, go when you can and adapt to your environment.

I wouldn't consider the actual weather as a determining factor in choosing to go fishing. I have been out on gorgeous bluebird days and got completely blanked and been out many times on nasty, rainy, freezing cold days with 30+ winds and absolutely hammered them. Moving tides, wind direction, finding bait, finding some sort of structure and having some sort of moving current are paramount. Pay close attention to lunar phases as well which effect the tides. Smooth Move nailed it, any time you can go is best. You don't know if you don't go! smile

Moving water and changing pressure are typically what I look for.

I use two resources:

Tides4Rishing (https://tides4fishing.com/) looks at tides and the solunar cycle (think full moon, new moon, etc) to find the best times.

Weather Underground (https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/tx/port-aransas) has a fairly good forecast for barometric pressure, hour by hour, out for ten days.

Today is Tuesday, for example, here's what I see (below). The black line is barometric pressure -- you can see it is lowest on Thursday morning (12/31) rising consistently through Friday and Saturday. This is ahead of a cold front, you can see the weather is...not great. BUT, if you had some cold weather gear and wanted to hit some late season flounder, spending New Year's Eve on Packery with a bottle of champagne and some Berkley Gulps might be the way to go. If you want to party with someone other than fish, New Year's day there's a bit of a stall on the pressure before it starts rising again. If I were planning a trip, I'd look at Tides4Fishing to find the closest tide changes to the pressure change.

Of course, if any of yall have a better way to do this I'm all ears. Two kids and a more-than-full time job mean I have to plan fishing trips very carefully.
