Had work and family stuff yesterday, but had plans to fish this morning, most of the day. Well, fog was BAD this morning... could not see 50 yards and with wife and son with me, just waited until we could see to be safer... that led to leaving the dock about 11 am. Knew I had to quit about 3, due to other duties. Luckily I found bait pretty quick, and while it was not the first throw, I did get lucky with one of those 1 throw and more bait than I needed for the day throws! With NO wind, had to use the trolling motor to power drift. Water temps were 52 - 54. Had a couple of places I wanted to try, that I had never fished. Found a lot of bait, but no fish. Moved to another spot I have caught fish before. Had 4 rods out, 1 with a nice big 8-9" shad nose hooked, tail cut off. Other baits were smaller. 10 minutes into the drift, rod with big bait got hit hard. Fish on... I thought I finally might have something big enough for a picture. 26", 6.2 lb hybrid... Nice fight and biggest hybrid I have caught on CC. 45 minutes and couple of small eater blues later, another big bait gets hit. Hard. Fish on. Good fight. Yep, you guessed it. 25", 6.1 lb hybrid. Not exactly what I was looking for, but was fun, and good time with the family. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/12/full-38115-78284-hybrids_dec_20_2020.jpg) Will try them again soon! Take care - stay safe all. Merry Christmas! Ken

Awesome post and good job catching some solid fish. Side Note: It is always better to eye on the side of caution. Good decision on waiting on the fog to lift!

Great report Ken! your zeroing in on em amigo! Big Blues follow those hybrids around like puppy dogs. The bigger fish I target are with the hybrids or sandbass more often then not. I use those hybrids and sandbass to zero in on big blues on my lake. When I’m on a fishery with striper I look for those cuz big blues follow them around too. scaled fish light up on 2d and there are usually more of them in the group than there are cats making them easier to locate. I can scan faster for them and they still show up on side image allowing me to scan an area quickly. This is good for days when the fish aren’t where you think and you gotta scan a ton to find them. When I find em I slow down and look for big blues around them. Blues have a soft body so you gotta be scanning pretty slow to mark em good. There are often 2-3 big blues following each little pack of hybrids or sandies. We were off the water this weekend celebrating wife’s 40th and then nursing a hangover the next day.

Thank you all!
Chris, thanks for the tips on the sonar. I have been planning to ask you how you are scanning for cats. You just answered my question! Hope the wife had a good birthday, and those hangovers are just a small price to pay for a good time! LOL
I am going to get this stuff figured out a little more, and will have that CPR Blue before too long!
Take care, and Merry Christmas everyone!

I will start shooting video of the scanning process Ken. It will probably be after Christmas when I get the video put together.

Looking forward to it!
I still have a lot to learn about all the electronics. I am not making full use of my Lowrance Ti 9. Especially on side scan, just harder to get dialed into what I am seeing and where it is. Little better on down scan and sonar.

Hybrids are fun to catch but I've never found them high on the culinary list. I know some people eat them I just don't care for them. A lot of my customers are very happy when we get in them. Me not so much as they can forever more put a kink and knots that take a lot of time to undo or correct. Time on the water is the key in most situations, at least it has been for me.
