Have had problems updating motor guide trolling motor using HDS live unit, have been doing without HDS being able to control trolling motor. Decide to get Lowrance to help with the update today. Long phone call and first person helping do resets and trouble shooting, second tech the answer was, as of the moment, there is no fix for the problem and that they and Motor Guide are working on it. Is there any body else having this problem?

Do you have 20.1 update in your HDS Live? IT should work with out any update on your TM The last couple of updates for the HDS Live had to do with TM and Autopile controls.

The 20.0 update is when all the problems started. I have seen on some forums on old threads, that the trolling motor, HDS and the nema network have to be turned on in the correct order. Going to try that when it warms up today. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I found to fix the problem. Needs gps lock on trolling motor and HDS before turning power on nema I guess.
There is no Xi5 software update, at least that is what Motorguide support told me. The prompt for updating the software will only happen one time but to get out of this mode and regain MG control by the Lowrance, you need to hard reset the Xi5. The procedure Motoguide gave me worked like a charm.

Power off the NMEA network (pull fuse)
the Xi5
and the Lowrance plotter

1. Deploy the Xi5, connect to power, and wait for the GPS lock light.

2. Power on the plotter, wait for it to load maps and lock on to GPS.

3. Re-power the NMEA network (fuse).

Reset is complete and you will have your auto-pilot screens back.

The procedure worked on land. Went to the lake yesterday to give it a try, it worked, but with one exception. When you try to navigate to a waypoint or cursor on screen using the XI5 it wonders back and forth in a half circle when it gets there, also tried to drive the boat to a waypoint next to impossible to drive to it since it keeps moving. Does anybody know a cure for this? It does have a point one antenna.

I would try recalibrating the GPS on the Xi5. That's where you go in circles to set it. BTW, I store all my manuals that are .pdf on the unit (Lowrance) so I have easy access on the water to the manuals. The "Find" button works well so scrolling down each page isn't necessary. I have HDS G2 and G3. I do not know if newer models have read .pdf files capability but I wouldn't think Lowr would remove that feature.
