Looking at driving down to see some family and driving pulling the boat behind. I have never fished this lake but it appears to have
a good population of white bass and hybrids. I do not need your spots, just need some generalizations of which end of the lake if possible.
Any stumps or rocks I need to look out for.

Is there a boat ramp that is ideal?

I will probably thump or dead stick so if there is any guidance, I would appreciate it. I will only have one day to fish so I would like to make the best of it.

I live less than 3 minutes from the lake. It is also known as the "dead sea". It has some whites but I have not found hybrids.
I would launch from Cedar Breaks it has the most wind protection.
The lake is low (9 or 10 feet). There will be some exposed rocks and stumps but only along the shoreline.
I would fish for whites in the main part of the lake between the dam and Jim Hogg park.
The lake is usually very clear 4-10ft visibility, but I have not been on the lake for 2 weeks.

As of this morning, Lake GT is down 13.45 ft. (lakelevels.info) Last week the floating boat docks were not usable. Be safe and have fun. LGT is a great place! Cedar Breaks boat ramp is 10 minutes from my house. Test your depth finder in the cove at the boat ramp. Sometimes I don't venture too far from there. The lake has taken a beating since March.

Really clear water, but I would also agree with the dead sea comment.. Only bass fished the lake, but it doesn't get much pressure. If you do any good share the info..

Fished that lake last year. That ^^^ pretty much sums up my trip.
I remember that lake being one giant empty valley. Not alot of structure, points, timber, etc.

It's a beautiful, barren bitch.

A couple years back though, I caught 5 species that day in February. Black bass, smallmouth, white bass, hybrid and crappie.

As said, lake is low but all areas of concern are clearly marked by tree lines in the river and coves.

It seems as most lakes in DFW are on fire for whites, hybrids, and stripers. I can fish most of those and thump or splash my way to a limit on most of those lakes.


Am I wrong that this technique will not work for this lake? Or are the fish just flat out gone?

The thumping will work. It is all I use when white bass fishing. You might even catch a limit depending on the amount of time you have to fish. I do not often fish for whites on Lake Georgetown(have a lake house on Buchannan).

Lake GT can be very frustrating at times. Some days in late winter and early spring, when targeting white bass, all I can catch are undersized hybrids. Some days it's all undersized LMB. Just have to be careful and have fun!!

so if you are catching under sized hybrids, they must be still stocking them.

I used to catch whites hybrid out from the swim beach at Russell. Years ago though

Not the update that everyone on this thread was expecting, but the inlaws came down with the COVID. They are doing great, but it looks like we will be staying in town! Thankfully, there will be another time! Merry Christmas Folks!
