A few weeks ago I got some weird readings on my humminbird 698ci combo graph. I posted the pics here to try to get some help making sense of what I was seeing. No one chimed in so I sent the images to humminbird. They told me I needed to update the software etc. I already had the most up to date software, but did it anyway, then went out on the water and still got weird imaging. I asked them what to do now. Their response? Connect the head to a different transducer to check if there is something wrong with it...as if everyone has multiple transducers they can just connect to. I have one on my troller, but the connections are completely different as it is a Lowrance up there. I will tell you this, while I am surprised and happy that humminbird responded at all (plenty of companies simply ignore customer issues) I'm not pleased with the results and am not very likely to purchase anything humminbird again.

I didn't lose him at the boat. I shook him off cause I didn't want my hands to get "fishy"

Guess you could send it in and have it checked out. Your expense.
Seems they were trying to help with there suggestions,
Since they are not there in the boat with you to assist.

I don’t know what else you could expect them to do for you.

Appreciate the link. I'd rather buy a new one if I'm gonna spend that kinda money. At this point I'll just give it to my nephew to use as a deep-o-meter since he just got a boat and has no electronics on it at all.

A buddy or maybe ask some guys at the ramp. If you asked me and I had the proper transducer I take you out for a few minutes and let you try it out... Fishing people are normally pretty good people and willing to help... Dan

If your not pleased with the results from Hummingbird - you'll really be upset dealing with Lowrance.

My 1199 gave me some issues and they told me about the transducer maybe being bad. I hung out at the ramp one afternoon until I saw a guy with Birds and asked him if I could hook up and test it. Super nice guy, we hooked mine up and it was the transducer on my boat - my unit worked great on his boat. Bought a transducer and everything was good again.

I have no idea if your transducer is bad. But, I had one go bad one time. The biggest issue was that I just thought that couldn’t be the problem. I worked on all sorts of stuff until I finally tried a transducer. That’s what it was. The really dumb thing was that at the time I had a spare in the garage. It was easy for me to check.

It’s your call on what to do. But, I think Humminbird does a good job with their customer service when I have needed them.
