May fish the lake Tuesday before camping.. any info on navigating the lake or fish catching would be appreciated.
I’ve never been and won’t have much time to figure it out. Thanks

Funny you say that. The only time that I've been there I kayaked across the lake and camped out for a few days to fish. The water was so muddy that I lost all confidence and ended up just getting wasted for 2 days. I caught my boot on fire taking a nap by the fire. I only managed 2 fish that weekend.

It's idle only so no worries on navigation. Fishing used to be awesome, last time I was there was April 2010, it was a mud hole void of cover and full of grass carp, the grass nazis at TPWD executed the lake.

It WAS my favorite lake in Texas to fish. UNTIL they killed off ALL the grass. I used to have 30-45 fish days (fishing by myself) pretty consistently. After they killed the grass one of two fish was a good day. Now have not been there in maybe three years. GOOD LUCK!

If you are going to be there anyways: lighted pier after dark.

I know that lake as well or better than most and went back 3 weeks ago just to see if it was as dead as everyone says it is. It's not completely dead but certainly far from a good fishery. Being cold and muddy this week, you're better off doing other things than fishing there.

no lie! It's amazing we pay these "biologists" to maintain the fisheries..... elementary students with limited educations could probably do a better job!

Making a huge devastating mistake once is pardonable.
But making the same exact poor decision multiple times after seeing the consequences of the first error is inexcusable.
Grass carp wiped out Conroe’s vegetation first, then Purtis, then Lake Austin.

If y’all spent half the time fighting to get hydrilla off the invasive species list as you do complaining about the best state wildlife and fisheries management department in the country we’d have it in all our lakes by now. roflmao

Campers pay the bills at Purtis, that hydrilla choked out the lake so bad you could only fish a couple small areas off the bank at best. They had to do something, at the time the grass carp were the leading method of controlling it. Didn’t work out so good but I haven’t seen any of their methods really work to control only to eradicate.

I can see your logic but also would say that overall for every camper there is 2-3 boats and that the tax revenue via registrations etc is significant. I think this issue is TPW's and they own it.

Just be patient. All of the 1000 grass carp they stocked in 2007 will be dead 20 years from now.

Yea that was a totally stupid thing to do. There are NO houses on the lake, absolutely no reason to kill off the grass there. IDIOTS You would think that they would have learned by now from all the other lakes they have destroyed by killing off the grass.
