Saturday I was expecting to have the Ditto ramp all to myself. Wrong, we pull into the parking lot and it is filled to overflowing. Forgot it was the opening day of duck season here in Alabama. The fog on the river basically had visibility reduced to zero, so many of them were returning to load. All three ramps had a waiting line. We eventually get on the water and head to our bluegill honey hole. It is a back eddy created where the current hits a dog leg along a cliff face. We spot lock and my front seater starts to fish for 'gills. I decide to tie on a Berkley Gulp with a crappie jig and cast to shore. I hook a crappie on the first cast. For the next two hours I literally caught a crappie on every cast. 99% were undersized, but I managed to put 10 in the live well. The bite stopped after a large yacht and barge send waves to muddy up the shoreline, so off to our first (and last stop). The TVA has finally slowed the water release from G Dam and we were able to use the spot lock to hold us over a stretch of the Tennessee River where we marked a lot of fish. We never moved and ended the day with a 22, 10, and 7. We could have caught more if we had downsized our baits and hooks. The dink bite was on fire that day.

Nice work Nut!

My buddy is a duck outfitter and I asked him what’s the best way to prepare duck. He told me to glaze it with honey, wrap it in bacon, and then put a pineapple slice on top. Throw it in the oven and cook it at such and such temperature for however many minutes. Then take it out, unwrap the bacon and pineapple, then throw the duck in the trash, and eat the bacon and pineapple. Duck tastes like Chit!! I laughed my azz off and will never forget that one.

Depends on the duck species. I divide the breast in half and marinade it in Teriyaki sauce. Goes on a hot grill for a minute on each side. Comes off rare to medium rare. Before that I thought duck was just a piece of liver with wings attached until a friend of mine cooked some for me this way. Duck hunters love nasty weather more than us slime catchers. My old joints don't handle cold and wet like they used to. I'm about to break out the Mr Heater for my next fishing trip.

I feel exactly the same way. My father duck hunted and love it, mother and I had Eisenhower Steak when he fixed duck.

Duck is great. If you cook it correctly.

LOL. I need to cook some duck for you.

Got to start with some good puddle ducks - they eat grain. Then I will mix you a coupe of TX drinks, and you will love it!
