Just wondering if you guys even bother trying to bass fish when it's obvious that the sandies are schooled up deep in the area you are fishing. We had found a very large school last week and were wearing out the 1-2 pounders on a 30' deep point on Roberts last week. I almost picked up my biffle bug and started throwing it, but decide not to. Surely there are bass around waiting for an easy meal? Or is it just a waist of time?

largest black I ever caught on Ray Roberts was under a school of whites. Never hurts to throw something under them that the typical white won't hit before it gets down. have caught many blacks under white bass on PK throwing a blu flk worm. Bass are opportunistic they are eager to take advantage of easy pickings that are often left from a white frenzy.

There are usually always black bass under a surfacing school of other fish. They lay there and get the injured bait that the other fish miss.

Sometimes you have to sort through the sandies. If nothing else it's fun to catch them.

Certainly I have caught blacks mixed with sandies when both are actively(and visually) chasing shad but as mentioned above^^^ BIG bass will feed on the actual sand bass. When you are catching lots of fish it’s hard(for me) to stop throwing the shallow square bill, trap or top water and go for the possible bigger bass. Run a large deep diving crankbait(sand bass colored?) or swimbait UNDER the schools or drop a big spoon and let it flutter down under the schools for those bigger largemouth bass.

On surface schoolies, I've had real good luck throwing a weightless trick worm rigged wacky. The sand bass don't seem to pay much attention to it but if there are blacks mixed in, they'll hammer it.

Buddy of mine caught like 10 sand bass with a rat l trap and I kept throwing a brush hog under the school. Very much so a great way to hunt for quality!

It's tough to get a moving bait down to the LMB in Sandbass schools. Them sandies will devour it on the way down.

A couple weeks ago I was out on the lake and saw many schools of shad at the surface. Fish started busting them. I picked up a lipless CB and caught sandies and largemouth till the sun went down. But they were up at the surface.

In August of 2018, I took a customer to Lake Fork and we fished with Zach Hughes. Fishing the hard bottom under the white bass, we caught some nice bass on swimbaits and Mag 12 BUZZ worms. My customer caught his PB Largemouth, a little over 8 lbs.
