Thought I would start a wintertime jig pattern thread. Thought it would be fun to share ones favorite winter jig patterns and materials used to make them. Also conditions that are favorable to the success of the jig.

The first one I will post is Blue Thunder
Materials: Blue Thunder Chenille, Saddle Hackle Slate and Ghost Gray, Blue and Silver Krystal Flash, head paint is Blue Thunder with sapphire teal clear coat. I like this jig at night or on cloudy days.

I will post a couple jigs a week that we like to use and keep the thread fresh. Share of you would like.

Pink head, pearl cactus body, pink neck hackle tail. It's pretty basic, but still deadly.

Curious about what sizes ya'll are using. Not so much the weight but the hook size #2, #4, #6 for winter fishing. Do you downsize for cooler water or go bigger because there is bigger bait in the water as opposed to say July when most of the bait seemed to be little fry; at least at the lake I have been fishing. This is what I have for winter time so far. Robins egg blue jig head, cool blue shad and flo shrimp pink chenille, flo blue and hot pink marabou, ice blue pearl flashabou.

Bones that is a cool pattern, I think the fish will tell you what they want. Just be prepared to change to use anything on any given day. When they are feeding it will not matter as usual. Bite is tougher then sizing down can be the answer. You are right Slabbedsilly.

I call this fire tiger.
Material Neck Hackle black and white, fl char Antron yarn that gives it a unique glow with the feathers, red krystal flash, fire tiger chenille. Have had success on multiple lakes with it both nighttime and day. Have also tied it with a red and flo yellow green feather.

Good tying

Started making this jig last winter and it was an immediate hit. Blue spec chenille, lime green hackle, chartreuse kystal and Pearl flashabou, head paint candy blue with sapphire teal clear coat. Have caught fish on Graham, Leon, Bridgeport, Proctor, and Nocona.

Shadslayer for Roberts I would say chartreuse/white, blue/chartreuse, blue/white, all chartreuse, black/chartreuse. Size depends on how you like to fish but you can always have a few ready of each size.
